Hi there! I found a weird bug today while browsing through my contributions page for this week. I had welcomed 21 users using the Welcome Wagon tool. Whereas when I open the “Your Contributions this Week” page (using Community Dashboard > Your Contributions this week), I find that the list says I have welcomed 0 users this week. Is there a bug in the welcome wagon tool?

This would likely be a bug assuming both lists should show the same number. Maybe there’s two different scripts for each number and only one of them is showing an accurate statistic, while the other one simply isn’t working. Maybe it’s down and an engineer needs to fix it and bring it back up. Maybe Anna will know since she’s the one who submits bugs to the engineers. @Anna

It’s probably not a bug, Anna can confirm this, but I think the “My Contributions This Week” status is cached, meaning it does not update in real time, but at some kind of set interval. I looked at my numbers in both places for patrolling, and there is a discrepancy. The Welcome Wagon Status probably updates quicker than the total contributions page. I could be wrong, but I seem to remember that being the case.

@Vaidyanathan.kiran Hey Vaid! If Isorhythmic is right (and I’m guessing he is, but only the wiki Hauser crew knows for sure!), this is totally normal and something you just have to deal with. Sorry about that! Are you still seeing the same numbers? I can’t remember the incriments that the numbers update, but it’s been 21 hours so there might be a change.:slight_smile:Since this doesn’t affect the actual tool or userability, this probably won’t be pegged as a priority if it is a bug. You might want to be patient and just wait a couple days for Anna’s return!

We definitely do have several places where counts don’t always “add up” because of differences in how they’re calculated; for example, “today” can refer to the last 24 hours or to this calendar day (and it can be different in different time zones!). Same goes for “last week” or “this week” - can be last 7 days, or it can be within the Sun-Sat or Mon-Sun range, for example.  Or, like Jeff and Marina said, in some places these counts are tallied up or refreshed at intervals, instead of in real time.

For this one, I’m not positive - my WW count is at zero right now, but if the Welcomes are counted on, for example, a Monday-Sunday basis and only updated at intervals, that could be legitimate. I’ll check back in on it later in the week to see what it says then, and I can file a bug report if it’s still looking way off. 

Luckily, it looks like the tool itself is working okay, so that’s the most important part! Hopefully we can get this worked out, too, but I’l be honest that it’ll probably be relatively low priority on the bug list, because it’s just a count in one spot and doesn’t affect how people actually get welcomed, which is the real goal of the tool. Thanks for bearing with us if it can’t be fixed quickly!
