I’ve been trying to use the Welcome tool on the Community Dashboard, but every time I try I get the following message:

@Kitty0 I’ve seen that here or there, generally on somewhat weird accounts - I don’t know why but I’ve noticed it on spammy types, for example, so maybe there’s something behind the scenes with that kind of edit that causes a hiccup when the tool tries to display their contributions (maybe because of deleted pages or something similar). All that being said, the fix has generally been easy: just skip past that one, and then also reload if needed. That’s always done the trick for me, so give it a try:slight_smile:

Thank you. But as I said “every time I try I get the following message”. Every time I refresh/skip it gives me the same message, and to accounts that have no history of spam.

That’s weird - I saw it once today, but after I skipped past the key player (I assume), it’s working okay for me. Do you have more in the queue now, or have you skipped down to 0? If you there are more, can you take a screencast of skipping through and then reloading a couple of times, so I can see the names that might be an issue and look into their activity? This’ll be a hard issue to reproduce if the skip is working for most folks but not for you, so I’m not sure what I’ll be able to dig up or file, but I can try!

@Anna After many, many times of shutting my laptop down, I got it loading! I have almost 50 in the queue right now, and I did skip down to 0 before. I’ll let you know if it happens again!

While trying to welcome @Maria-Filina it gives me the same message, but it doesn’t look like they’re a spammy account. Does it just happen to random users?

I think they are somewhat spammy as it happens (doing subtle content marketing from multiple accounts), but I can’t say why that’d make a difference since they haven’t been blocked or anything… It’s not a pattern I’ve ever been able to pin down; I’ve just noticed that it occasionally happens but whenever I’ve seen it, it’s been on the kind of folks we wouldn’t want to encourage anyway so it’s never struck me as much of a problem… but it’s possible that’s total coincidence - it’s just never kept me from welcoming good faith folks, so I haven’t worried about it too much:slight_smile:Anywho, if you’ve got that screencast of what happens when you skip her, feel fee to email it to me! And in the meantime, I’d just skip when you see the error; if you really want to welcome a person you have to skip, you can always open up their talk page separately in the meantime. Thanks for bearing with the tool through the hiccups!

I will screencast it again if I see it happen. However, since that wasn’t much of an issue, I didn’t record the last one. I’ll keep my nose up!
