Why does every user have a daily patrol limit? Why can’t they do everything themselves?

Since patrolling is such a crucial task for quality control, admins sometimes place temporary patrol limits on newer patrollers to help as they learn the ropes. This gives the new patroller a chance to get feedback, ask questions, and focus on quality rather than quantity, especially when they’re still new. But patrol limits can be adjusted or lifted as folks learn the ins and outs of the task- I see the limit on your account right now is actually pretty high, higher than the number of patrols many folks do in a day anyway - but if you feel you’re ready for more, shoot me or another admin a note on a talk page and we can work it out
How do we see our patrol limits?
@Marcus-Arseneault
You can view the patrol throttle logs ( wikihow.com/index.php?title=Special%3ALog&type=throttle&user=&page=&year=2016&month=-1&tagfilter=&hide_patrol_log=1
) and see if anyone applied any limits on your account. Under the Title field, enter your username with the “User:” prefix. Here’s yours
- no entries means no one has placed any limits yet
This brought up a question for me… I have a patrol throttle of 40 from last year. Does it still apply? Thanks.

@Blackcats-Awesome
, unless they’re readded or adjusted, limits expire after a month, so nope, that shouldn’t apply any more. If you find something in the throttle logs and it’s been more than a month since that last date, it won’t apply now. If a second throttle is added or the amount is adjusted/changed, then it’ll apply for one month again before expiring, and so on.
Oh ok. Thanks for clarifying
It’s very annoying constantly running into this limit.
One thing: The patrol message is different and more bland when you’ve reached the patrol limit. The true message telling you you’ve patrolled everything has a sunflower picture, and a different message.
The sunflower appears when there are no more recents edits in the RCP (Recent Changes Patrol) queue. This has nothing to do with the patrol limit. When I see the sunflower, I smile and choose another activity, then come back to RCP when the queue is a bit longer.
@Wizzdom
Kudos for bringing this to the table! I’ve always heard of patrol limits, but I don’t ever recall getting a message like that besides patrol coach or the sun flower message.
Anyway, I think the patrol limit will be taken off your back soon! You are doing great work on RCP, from my perspective. Have you tried asking Anna to push up the throttle a bit yet?
Cheers!
Haha I smile as well XD It’s really rare when I find that sunflower
Anyway, as a new user on wikiHow I have had my patrol limited as well and it has taught me to be a great patroller
Cheers to the all the users that have helped me!
Really? I see the sunflower a lot.
