It would be fun to have big WikiHow awards (>‿
) Like you get something for your page for being funny, nice drawings, sending lots of fan mail.
It’s been done here and there on the forums, though there hasn’t been one in a few years, as far as I’m aware. It’s something like this awards show
that you want us to do, I presume?
Yes that looks fun but more awards for everyone? ‘◡’
Cool! I never knew they used to do this on the forums…a long time ago. It would be nice to bring it back.
Little awards given occasionally are nice too. Here’s a handy list.

I’m a fan of Dave’s approach - it can be an unexpected and neat pick-me-up to get some appreciation like that, relatively out of the blue
I have wondered, here or there, whether it might be worth giving some of the older award templates a facelift, too. It’s the thought that counts, really, and the look doesn’t affect the appreciation, of course - but a few of them do look a little dated these days, or display weirdly since our redesign (so long ago now, but I don’t think most awards have been updated since then). Might be worth sprucing a few up for fresh use!
I ended up doing a facelift for a bunch of them last year, if I remember correctly when someone (forgot their username) asked me to look through the award templates. However, some of them still pose to be a problem, and I could use some help. I’d be happy to help for some of the award templates, when it comes to that, but only for thoughts and ideas and a few slight tweaks in how the item displays.

Oh cool, I didn’t know you’d done that @Byankno1
- maybe not as many need updates now as I thought, then! Nice
The only thing I’ve really noticed here and there is that some templates end up looking pretty funky on mobile in particular - that’s not necessarily the easiest problem to solve, since mobile design is a pain to lots of engineers, too, yikes!
I was tinkering around with this Author4 one
, earlier, and saw it looked kind of squished side-by-side on my phone, so I had a go at putting it top-to-bottom and updating the older HTML format to HTML5/CSS. I’m not really a pro at it, though, so if anyone spots issues and either wants to fix them or wants to revert to the previous version, no problem at all! Any thoughts on that, @Byankno1
(or anyone else?)?
Just don’t trust the actual template preview page, heh - because of other CSS/HTML on our talk pages, you have to look at it in place, like on my test account here
, to see what it looks like
I didn’t know it went further than how I looked into fixing them last year. Seems like if someone has more time on their hands and more patience, they can look into helping. I’d be happy looking at the occasional one, but I’m not too into the CSS code of “now”.
That’s exactly what I did with most of the other awards too. Having them display on a Talk page with the image ontop-center of the text. Seems that displaying them side-by-side is deprecated in this MW/HTML version we all live in now.
Just a reminder to all: When testing it out on a Talk page, you don’t even need to publish the message after the fix to the template has occurred; there’s still a Preview button to see what it will look like without publishing the message containing the award template.

Yeah, no worries @Byankno1
- I’m on the same page about just fixing some here or there, too. But if anyone spots any that seem funky or have a weird layout in our newer designs, and wants to use them, I’m all for cleaning them up if/when there’s a need before use. And I’m going to try to remember to give out some more awards myself - I don’t know too many of the templates off by heart, so I’ll have to go poking around to get to know them
