I’m excited to announce that the wikiHaus is launching a new charitable initiative today!

For this initiative, we’ve partnered with Direct Relief ( directrelief.org/ ), an organization that helps people in need of medical assistance, and focuses on providing care to people suffering from poverty and emergencies such as wildfires, hurricanes, and earthquakes. Direct Relief is one of the top-ranked charities in the U.S. and has a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, which means they’re great at using contributions effectively. We’re delighted to be able to support their mission!

The goal of the charity initiative is to raise funds for this excellent organization, while helping inform readers about the wikiHow mission. Readers can help us support Direct Relief simply by clicking on a special section we’ll be displaying on our article pages like this: http://jmp.sh/uZJ1pct

Clicking that link will take you this page that provides more information about Direct Relief, wikiHow and our mission: wikihow.com/wikiHow:Gives-Back

We’ll be tallying clicks to the charity campaign page, and at the end of the month, wikiHow will donate to Direct Relief based upon those clicks. This is a new initiative for us – if it proves to be successful, we’ll look to partner with other great organizations in the future.

We’ll be rolling this out across all our article pages shortly. Feel free to click to support Direct Relief! And thank you all for what you do on wikiHow - your efforts to make outstanding how-to articles help make it possible for wikiHow to support this great organization:slight_smile:

Looks great:slight_smile:

This is really great, Chris! Thank you for sharing.

Thanks to you and anyone else at the wikiHaus who had a hand in implementing this partnership. Initiatives like this are one of the many reasons I enjoy spending time in this community.

<insert big smiley face here>

This is a great initiative taken on by wikiHow, thank you to everyone involved, I’ve already clicked…

Clicked!

I love Direct Relief! There is so much good in the world. We must remind ourselves that even and especially when we are caught up in the cycle of depressing news.  Very blessed to be a part of this beautiful community. Adelaide:slight_smile:

This is great, I click that button every time I see it.

Me too!

Hello what do i do?

Great.:slight_smile:Glad to hear!

Will you still be supporting the Wikimedia Foundation and the Creative Commons?

sure yeah whyif you’re asking me.

This won’t affect our support for any other organization - it’s an independent initiative.

I’ll participate in anything, but what do I do here?

We’re tracking how many people click from our articles to the charity page. So if you click to go to that page, you’re helping.

Of course, you also help by contributing to wikiHow:slight_smile:By helping make our articles useful to readers through patrolling changes, fixing spelling and other edits, you help other readers find our articles, which gives them the chance to visit the charity page, too!

Oh okay

I’m glad we’re talking to each other cuz i didn’t have anybody to talk to

“We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give.” – Winston Churchill.

I must say excellent prospect! Sounds like an amazing charity. Good work everyone!

@Chris-H When you say tallying by clicks is this a one per person type thing or can one user click multiple times and that be counted? Just wondering. I’ve already clicked a few times so should I go for more or…?

@InfernoTerra Click as often as you’d like – no need to give yourself carpal tunnel, though!

Well this is a super cool bit of change to see as I come back online - the wiki reaching to help off the web as as well as on. Gotta love it :D
