Hi everyone!

I recently created the wikiHow: Forgotten Article Project and it’s pretty much done, apart from the need of congratulations, nominations  and invite tags (which I’ll probably get to some time in the future.)

It only has four members at the moment, including me, and there are so many articles in the queue to be fixed up. The Forgotten Article Project’s aim is to find and fix up articles that have tags on them that are at least one month old. You would be surprised at how many articles with old tags on them there is. We have about 15-20 articles in the queue with year old stub/merge tags on them which haven’t been seen to yet.

There is more detailed information about the project on the project page here: wikihow.com/wikiHow:Forgotten-Article-Project

Please please consider joining or at least check out the project page!

Thanks

From Cat.

I better get working again!

I might be able to do this. Do you need to do anything before you start @Catmad1148 ?

After a good number of years here, I’ve noticed a lot of projects fall on their feet due to lack of active participation. So I present the following:

How to Have a Successful WikiProject:

  • Send talk page messages to your team members weekly to keep them informed of which articles have been completed, and what has been recently finished, and goal status.
  • Make solid goals. Be specific in what you want to achieve, with numbers and dates.
  • Send messages of encouragement or awards to team members who are participating: Check out some award templates.  http://www.wikihow.com/Category:Award-Templates or make your own
  • Post updates to your project in the forums, such as in this category, Collaboration Corner

Side note: It looks like the template “FA Nomination” doesn’t exist. I would actually suggest calling it “Forgotten Article” and attaching it to the discussion page instead. Reason being, FA can be confused for featured article and the discussion page is the most appropriate place for collaboration projects.

Great suggestions, @Lojjik !

+1

WikihowSaver, you have been the most constructive member of the project, so thank you very much for that.

Thank you very much, Blackcats Awesome… Thanks for your offer of help, but I’ve got things pretty much wrapped up with the project, the only thing that really needs doing now is actually fixing up the articles and a bit of advertisement. I would be very happy if you would join.

Thank you very much @Lojjik , I did need some help on how to go forward with the project. I will do all of the things that you have suggested.

For the side note, the template does now officially exist now it has gone through NAB and it is now live. The reason that I did not call it ‘Forgotten Article Nomination’ is that I wanted members to be able to quickly be able to put the template onto the article, and as I’m sure you’ll agree ‘FA Nomination’ is way quicker to type than ‘Forgotten Article Nomination’!

I agree that there might be confusion with the abbreviation, however I’m not sure how I would change the name of the template and also I’m sure people would not confuse the template for a featured article nomination as it has a detailed description on the template about how it is a ‘Forgotten Article’ and not a ‘Featured Article’.

I would be happy to post the nomination on the discussion page instead, the only concern that I would have with that is that it would be less noticeable on there than on the actual article and it might be overlooked.

Thanks very much for your help, from Cat.
