Hi everyone – as @Krystle
mentioned a few weeks ago
, I recently transitioned off of wikiPhoto and am now focusing on Marketing & PR, something that wikiHow has never done before. I am thrilled to be working on getting your articles more exposure and coverage. I figured it would be nice to start sharing some highlights about wikiHow in the press (or in the buzz of social media) on a regular basis with everyone here, so expect to see me update this thread every week with the latest. For now, here are a few highlights from the last week or so: Twitter
has been a bundle of love for wikiHow lately:<nowiki>@StephingStones</nowiki> tweeted that “wikiHow is such a lifesaver,”<nowiki>@meeoowxii</nowiki> says that “wikiHow es maravilloso,” and <nowiki>@CeCe_Nicole</nowiki> says “thank you wikiHow… you help me out a lot!” Even a popular DJ ( @djbencastaneda
) tweeted to his 20k+ fans about how he was going to try and make some Vodka Skittles
. In the press, Wired recently did a blog post
about making a duct tape wallet for Father’s Day where they called our article “a great set of instructions” for making the accessory. Another news-source, The Blaze, recently had an article about wikiWars which quoted extensively from our article
about the wikiPedia-based game. Thank you to everyone for helping to make wikiHow so amazing! Until the next update… ~Thom
Yay! Cool, I was wondering what she meant by that, now I know!

Good stuff. I have felt for a while that wikiHow really needed an individual dedicated to marketing, so I am very happy to see that role fulfilled.

It’s awesome to see you tweeting Pinterest links about wikiHow instead of just seeing daily FAs from the actual wikiHow and wikiHow Herald accounts on my timeline; including the re-tweeting other people’s thoughts about articles through the wikiHow account (I think that’s Krystle or you? O.o)
Thanks for the updates. I’m really looking forward to learning about the great press wikiHow receives.
Another quick update on recent love for wikiHow in the press & social spheres: On Twitter, tweets that don’t even link to articles, but rather just praise wikiHow for being amazing are extremely common:<nowiki>@MissFortune3</nowiki> tweeted “I’m addicted to wikiHow. Its the answer to all of life’s problems. Literally” <nowiki>@sophiaxanderson</nowiki> also tweeted “wikiHow can solve most problems. #truestory
” More major twitter accounts also love wikiHow: The Star Trek & ComicCon event producers tweeted out our article
on How to Be a Trekkie One of SCJohnson’s accounts also tweeted our article
on How to Make Paper Clay. In the press, A blog
called Jump For Joy referenced our article
on How to Jump Higher. Sustainable Business Forum
also critiqued the recent Rio+20 conference, saying that the people behind the agreement really should have read our article
on How to Start a Successful Club before before committing. Thank you to everyone for their amazing work on wikiHow! More updates soon.

Awesome! Good job Thom (and everyone else)!
Bumping for relevancy. Sinking bumped threads.
*nods* Well it looks like wikiHow has been running fine without me. But i’m going to advertise to the millions of people that play minecraft. (Check out minecraft’s facebook page, with 3 million followers i think they may have put in a wiki from here!) And it is my personal duty to advertise wikihow on all of the most popular minecraft servers 1 person at a time.
Thanks for gathering all these, Thom!
I just watched a “The Big Bang Theory” episode earlier which briefly mentioned wikiHow. I think the line was “Didn’t you read the wikiHow link I sent you on being goth?” I thought it was pretty awesome
Think about it this way: A popular show like that wouldn’t mention a real website unless it was at least somewhat popular, so people would actually get the joke. This may be a good sign as to how well-known wikiHow is as a “name”.
Perhaps. But why did we ever promote an article on being goth?
Here is the BigBangTheory clip that references wikiHow for those who want to see it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYdfGsYyALI
I actually think any way you spread the word about wikiHow is good. The more ways we get the word out the better.
