On the heels of Recent Changes Camp in Boston, an idea was suggested in IRC today of possibly organizing wikiHow meeting/meetup events in different U.S. cities, so that contributors from different parts of the country could have the chance to meet casually with fellow editors, discuss wikiHow related topics, go on an outing, etc. The idea seemed pretty positively accepted. If this interests you, feel free to respond below with what region you’re within if you’d like, and how far you’d be willing to travel (e.g. day trip, weekend, several days). You may want to add what time of year (e.g. spring, summer, May, June, etc.) generally works best for you as well. A few of the cities ideal for these kind of meeting/meetup events include: *New York *Washington D.C. *Los Angeles *Las Vegas *Philadelphia Again, if this interests you, feel free to respond with your thoughts below. =)

I’m pretty much available whenever, ideally for the northeast (NYC, Boston, New Haven), unless I can take an affordable Amtrak to/from.

I’d be willing to go somewhere for a day, maybe drive the night before type of thing. I live near Buffalo NY, but Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Rochester would be cool.

New York and DC would work best for me.

Yes! Also feel free to suggest cities outside of the U.S.! If we get a small group of people to meet up (like 8-15 people) we could rent a small space and do a “wikiHow workshop” with sessions about wikiHow issues, developments, tools, etc. Then after we could just hang out and do fun stuff like be really bad at bowling (unless you’re Teresa!). And this time we can make sure Jack will be there:smiley:

Also when naming the cities you’d be willing to travel to, keep in mind that if you’re very active on wikiHow you probably qualify for a travel subsidy to help defray the cost.

I definitely agree with this - I felt kind of lost with the non-site discussions & felt really comfortable in the wikiHow vs eHow discussion. With that said, just by hanging out with all the wikiHowians at my first event this past weekend… I really want to do it again. edit: Would love to do this, just have to discuss with S/O more about it when new discussions/details come up.

I live in MD…a meetup event in Washington, D.C. would be most ideal for me; but NYC as well, for sure.

I’ll go anywhere. Except Tokyo. That city seems wayyy too claustrophobic for my taste.

How about a meeting for contributors to hang out sometime at the wikiHaus? I believe there are at least a few people people in the SF Bay Area, including myself.

It looks like the next RCC may be in the Bay Area.

It would certainly be easy for us to host a meetup at the wikiHaus in Palo Alto near San Francisco if anyone was interested in visiting California. I’d be willing to go pretty much anywhere if we can get enough wikiHowians to attend though.

I’m no pro with booking flights, but it looks like there are round-trip flights from Boston to San Francisco for $450 total (/me prods Jenn)

DON’T MIND ME JUST SHOWING UP IN THE WRONG THREAD But seriously, talking of which, does anyone want to do the UK again?

Yes.

Personally, I would love to attend a wikiHow meetup (or RCC, for that matter) in the Bay Area, wikiHaus, or the UK, but that would most likely be impractical for me as of now. Keep in mind too that this proposed type of event isn’t just one, but hopefully several different meetup events across the country and perhaps outside of the U.S. as well. Just my observation - there seems to be a nice concentration of editors in the Northeast/East Coast, so if a NYC meetup event sounds interesting, I’d be more than happy to help with arranging it.

I would do San Fran, have never been. I feel like I’m a bit new to be putting in my 2 cents…but there they are!

It looks like the next Recent Changes Camp (wiki conference) will be in Berkeley. If so, I was thinking it would be awesome to have an event at the wikiHouse right before or after RCC if at all possible.

My summer is filling up with tentative travel plans pretty quickly, so I probably will be unavailable until mid or late August, and after traveling pretty much around the country, I’d much rather stay local in Boston or NYC.

Late afternoon yesterday, WWE announced that the Survivor Series PPV would take place at MSG on November 20th. Just a head’s up. Also, the Summerslam PPV (which is the 3rd most popular WWE PPV), is taking place August 14th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Anyways, to avoid repetitiveness, it looks like we’ll eventually need West Coast vs East Coast meetings to accommodate those in their respective areas. Those whom are able to travel further than others are more than welcome to. This has nothing to do with official RCC locations. If the next RCC is in Berkeley, then it’s fine… if any East Coasters are still willing to have a gathering, then we can plan an unofficial one. Just a personal preference for meetups, I think it’s more fair to everyone attended if events were agreed upon & even if there’s lots of tourist attractions in an area, just allow people to relax with their time & financial options. =]
