I heard there was a wiki travel guide called Wikitravel ( http://wikitravel.org/en/Main_Page ). I plan to write several articles about the site (and I invite other people to as well!) I was wondering if we could have a new Wikitravel category? Maybe that could be a sub-category to Wikis.

I am familiar with Wikitravel and have made some edits there, though now when I occasionally make edits I do it on Wikivoyage (much of the WT community apparently forked over to WV in the last year or two, over some kind of hosting dispute on WT. And I like the format/layout better). Getting back to your thread…I think you could probably write like “How to Write a Travel Guide on Wikitravel” (or Wikivoyage) or something like that, but I’m trying to figure if enough could be written to create a whole category.

I’m not sure if there’d be enough, but we could look for suggestions and invite other community members to write articles relating to that topic. And call the category “Wikitravel and Wikivoyage” if we have enough articles on that subject.

There only needs to be a minimum of five listed articles. Whichever the official name is, can be placed under the wiki sub-category.

Mal, I think Wikivoyage would be the better category. Side notes: I started creating an article on how to contribute to Wikitravel, but I think it would be better to write it on how to contribute to Wikivoyage, and request its title changed. If enough community members are willing to write more articles on that topic, I think everyone could agree on a Wikivoyage category.

They are two different sites in the case of forking. It’s not the case of what name sounds/suits better. Is that picked because it’s the new one chosen from the fork?

What do you mean??

yes. Many community members of Wikitravel switched to Wikivoyage.

@Jordan Help on the suggested category name?

@Maluniu I’d go with Wikivoyage; there just seems to be a greater presence there currently vs. Wikitravel. I know both are popular but the former is growing at a faster pace.
