This is probably another stupid idea, but a lot of users share the frustration of having their images replaced by Wikivisual. Since Wikivisual have the expertise and software I think they could improve images which have bad lightning, centering, zooming in, adding arrows etc. Thoughts?
That would take a lot of work to make here on wikiHow. How exactly will they do that?
@WikihowSaver
I don’t think Wikivisusl get paid very much anyway. I just mean that perhaps they could do some quick touch ups. Maybe there could be a bot that automatically fixes the brightness and contrast, idk.
I like the bot idea, that would be cool!
Just to put it out there, authors are free to revert Wikivisual’s images if they think their own images are more suitable. Wikivisual bases their images by following the main steps; only the author can shed some light on how the article’s content should be interpreted. Everything on wikiHow is reversible so feel free to be bold, revert the edit, and pass on some feedback so the wikiHaus folks can improve the system.
Savas – you bring up a good point and a few people mentioned this at the meetup. So, I’m not an image creator/adder here, but when I’ve had issues with images, I contact Anna and she always handles everything well. So, I suggest that you discuss the issues you have with her if you haven’t already. And then, if it’s not adequately addressed, bring it up here in the forums. One of the reasons I say go to Anna is because she works closely with the staff and may be able to tell you how feasible it would be to implement your suggestions.

Where does Wikivisual get its images?
I am thinking that they take the shots, and then make them so that our logo for wikiHow shows on the bottom right of them. There are even green bars on some occasions. After that, they are uploaded to articles, but it can take a while for them to do so as normally they are reallybusy.

A image database that I wish was available to editors.
I actually like Wikivisual’s images. They have that professional “look” to them. I’m no good at images, unless I am screenshotting stuff.
