Wikimania 2012 is July 12-15 in Washington, DC. ( http://wikimania2012.wikimedia.org/
) While there will be a lot of Wikipedia editors there, we’d love to have people from WikiHow and other wikis there. There are a lot of things, usability-wise and more, that WikiHow does different (better?) and think we’d also welcome program submissions to share cool stuff here. If you want a room for a pre-conference (or during the conference) WikiHow meetup or lunch, I think we can do that too. (just let me know)

Sorry, but summer is pre-planned out. Hope to hear wikiHow being repped at Wikimania though!!
I think this would be great! @Aude
thank you for the kind invitation! I’d love to have a big wikiHow group at Wikimania. I’ve been to 4 Wikimania’s and they have all been great. Let’s make July 12-15 as a combined wikiHow meetup / Wikimania extravaganza. Assuming wikiHow could offer some sort of financial subsidy to partially offset travel costs, who could make it? If you can’t make it for all 4 days, are there days that are better or worse to attend. I don’t think I can make it for all 4 days, but am pretty sure I could go for 2-3 days.

I’m not sure what my summer plans are as of yet, but there’s a good chance I might be able to make it. I think it’d be awesome to have a big wikiHow group there.
Is Wikimania a huge event, say, more events and more people than RCC? I might be able to go, /possibly/ driving down from Boston if anybody along the way wants to hitch a ride, lol
Yes! Wikimania is a HUGE event. Much bigger than RCC. Last time it was in North America it attracted over 500 people. I think they are expecting 500-1000 this year. It would be great if @Bokehmon
@Metsguy234
and @Progressive
could join. Heck, you might even be able to convince @Maluniu
to change her plans and come so I could finally meet her!

There are more events. The format is different. Most of the events are panel talks, but there’s also a presentation by the board as well as a big party. There are more talks about academic research – mostly related to Wikipedia. I’m not 100% sure if I can attend this year, but I’d like to make it for at least part of the conference.

Thanks for reaching out Aude! I’ve actually never been to a Wikimania so it would be my first. And Jack suggested I do a talk so if I draw up the guts to, you guys HAVE to come and be my moral support! (please <3)

@Bokehmon
It’s bigger from what I hear, but since it’s more of a lecture format rather than circle discussion format, you’re probably a bit more anonymous, which I know can put some people at ease about it being a huge event. And if we do this I’ll be there the whole time (especially since there isn’t a brewery for me to go visit) so there’ll always be at least one person you know there.

FINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNE. This is squeezed time… I’ll have 2 weeks in before my actual trip to rest/get ready. Krystle is urging in IRC and I still owe you for the Kailua Beach “whoops” meeting.
Yeah! @Maluniu
and @Metsguy234
! Who else might be able to make it?

Hey everyone, I started an official planning page for this meetup here: http://www.wikihow.com/wikiHow:Wikimania2012
If you’re interested in attending, please add your name to the list!
Washington?! Oh my goodness, I (Out of a 100% chance, 10%.) might be able to go, I was thinking of taking a trip down there, but I have this big acting thing I really don’t want to miss…Still… If I go, you’ll know me (Look for long black hair!), fingers crossed! June Days
Are the younger-ish editors allowed to go?

I think it’s fine as long as your thirteen or older.
^ Any wikiHowian is welcome to go!

and would have an interest in learning/discussing wikis of some sort - not just the thrill of “going” and have a thorough sit-down discussion with your parental/guardian figures It might sound pretty awesome of getting together with other editors, but what people needs to remember, is that we’re all online strangers. This isn’t a school field trip nor family vacation of any sort
