Favorite Piece of Advice
The quickest way to take mental load off of someone who is overburdened, but also wants a high level of communication, is to ask a question with a default answer. Example: "How can I help?" vs. "Hey, I'm seeing that the dishes need to be done, the dog needs to be walked, and the table needs to be cleared. I'm thinking I'll take care of the dog first, sound good?" Starting to simply take off the load by changing the way we ask questions starts the process of mental ownership.
