Learn to set up Hotmail (now Outlook) on iPad

Using the Mail App

Open your iPad'sSettings. This is the gear icon.
- Use this method to add your Hotmail account to your iPad's Mail app. Hotmail is now Outlook, so you'll need to use Outlook to log in.
- Even though Hotmail is called Outlook now, you can still send and receive email from and to your @hotmail.com account .

Tap Apps . You can find this in the left sidebar.
- If you have an older version of iOS, you can skip this step.
- You can also use these steps to add Hotmail to your iPhone. If you have an iPhone, Apps will be at the bottom of the Settings menu.

Tap Mail . You may need to scroll down to find this option.

Tap Mail Accounts . This is near the top of the page. You'll see a list of all mail accounts added to your iPhone. [1] X Research source

Tap Add Account . If you have existing email addresses linked to the iPad Mail app, you'll see them listed under the Accounts header.

Tap Outlook . This is the second option from the bottom.
- Even though you have a Hotmail domain in your email, you'll need to use Outlook to log into your account.

Log into your Hotmail account. Enter your email address, and then tap Next . Enter your password, and then tap Next .
- You may be asked to verify your account further if you have two-factor authentication turned on.

Tap Save . By default, the Mail toggle will be turned on. If you don't want other features, such as Calendar, Contacts, or Reminders, tap the toggle to turn them off.
- Now that you've synced your Hotmail/Outlook account to the iPad Mail app, you can use the Mail app to send and receive email using your Hotmail account.

Using the Outlook App

Open your iPad'sApp Store. If you don't want to add Hotmail to the Mail app, you can use the Outlook app to sync Hotmail to your iPad. To get started, tap the App Store app icon, which resembles a white "A" on a blue background.

Tap Search . It's a magnifying glass-shaped tab at the bottom of the screen.

Search for the Microsoft Outlook app. Tap the search bar at the top of the screen, type in "outlook" and look for Microsoft Outlook in the resulting drop-down list.
- Even though your email address ends with @hotmail.com, you will still need to use Outlook.

Tap Get . It's a blue button to the right of the Outlook app's icon.
- If you or someone else has downloaded Outlook onto this iPad before, you'll tap the cloud icon here instead.

Verify when prompted. If you're entering your Apple ID, you'll tap Install and then type in your Apple ID password, whereas Touch ID users will simply need to scan their Touch ID fingerprint. If you're using Face ID , just look at your iPad. Once you've confirmed your identity, the Outlook app will begin downloading.
- You may need to skip this step if you're re-downloading Outlook.

Open the Microsoft Outlook app on your iPad. Tap Open in the iPad's App Store once Outlook finishes downloading, or tap the Outlook app icon on one of your iPad's Home Screens. Doing so will open the app's login page.

Tap Add Account . It's a blue button at the bottom.
- If you already have accounts synced to your iPad, you'll see them listed, otherwise, tap Skip to proceed with a new account.

Enter your Hotmail email address and tap Add Account . You'll be prompted to sign into your Hotmail account.

Enter your Hotmail account password and tap Sign in . This blue button is below the text box. Once your password is accepted, you will be signed in to your Hotmail account in the Outlook app.
- You can now view your Hotmail inbox in the Outlook app, and future messages will also be synced to the app.
