Quickly unclutter your inbox by deleting all emails from one sender

If you are receiving spam, empty emails, phishing scams, or you are being harassed or mail-bombed by someone, you may want to delete all emails from a specific user. Luckily, most email services allow you to search by email address and delete emails in bulk. This wikiHow article teaches you how to delete all emails from one sender.

Quick Steps

  1. Open your email app on mobile or web application.
  2. Use the search feature to search "from:[email address]."
  3. Select all emails from the sender.
  4. Click or tap the trashcan or Delete icon.
  5. Open your Trash folder.
  6. Empty the Trash folder.

Using Gmail on a Computer

  1. To do so, open a web browser. Navigate to https://mail.google.com , and log in to your Gmail account . You can use any web browser on a PC or Mac.
  2. The search field is above the inbox or list of emails. After you press "Enter," you'll see a list of emails sent from that address.

  3. It's in the upper-left corner above the checkboxes next to each email in the search results list. This will select the first 50 emails in your list.
    • You can also click the downwards-facing arrow to edit your selection.
  4. If there are more than 50 emails, you will see a blue link that says "Select all conversations that match this search" appear above the list of emails. Click this link to select the rest of the emails in the search results.
    • You may need to confirm this action by clicking OK in the pop-up box when prompted.
  5. It's in the menu bar at the top of the page on the left side. This will move all selected emails to your trash.
    • All emails in the trash folder will be permanently deleted 30 days after they were moved into the trash
  6. To do so, click Trash in the menu bar to the left. If you don't see "Trash" in the menu bar to the left, click More to expand the menu.
  7. It's above the list of emails in your Trash folder. This will permanently delete all emails in your Trash folder. [1]
    • It is recommended you review the Trash folder before permanently deleting everything. If you see any emails you want to keep, click the checkbox next to it, click the folder with an arrow pointing right, and then select the folder (i.e., "Inbox") you want to move it to.

Using the Gmail Mobile App

  1. It has an icon that resembles a red, green, yellow, and blue "M." You can find this app on your home screen, in the app drawer, or by searching.
    • You can use this method on any mobile device that uses Gmail, and the steps are the same. Most of the time, Android phones and tablets use Gmail as their default email app. If you don't have the Gmail application, you can download it from the Google Play Store on Android or the App Store on iPhone and iPad.
  2. The search field is at the top of the inbox or list of emails. After you press "Enter," you'll see a list of emails sent from that address.
  3. This will display a checkbox next to the email and a checkbox next to the rest of the emails.
  4. It's at the top of the page. This selects all emails on the page.
    • Unfortunately, there isn't a way to select all emails from a sender using the Gmail app. You may need to delete several pages worth of emails separately to get all of them.

Using the Outlook Web App

  1. To do so, go to https://outlook.live.com/ in a web browser and log in to your Microsoft account. You can use any web browser on a PC or Mac.
  2. The search bar is at the top of the page. This displays all emails from the email address you searched.
  3. It's at the top of the page on the left side. It's above the checkboxes next to all the emails. This checks all emails in your list.
  4. It's in the center of the page next to an icon that resembles a trashcan. This will move as many as 75 emails to your Deleted folder.
    • If there are more than 75 emails, you may need to search and select another 75 emails and delete them.
  5. To do so, click Deleted items in the menu bar to the left.
  6. It's at the top of the page. This will display a prompt asking if you want to delete all items in the Deleted folder.
    • It is recommended you review the trash folder before permanently deleting everything. If you see any emails you want to keep, click the checkbox next to it and then click Restore in the menu bar at the top of the page.
  7. This deletes all items in the Deleted folder.

Using the Outlook App on a Phone or Tablet

  1. This app icon looks like a blue sheet and envelope with an "O" next to it. You'll find this on either your home screen, in the app drawer, or by searching.
    • You can use this method on any mobile device that Outlook uses (including Android and iOS), and the steps are similar. The mobile app, however, does not support the functionality to select multiple messages at a time, so you will have to open each email and delete it manually.
  2. It's the icon that resembles a magnifying glass in the upper-right corner.
  3. Make sure you press "Enter" on your keyboard when you're done. All the emails from that sender will appear.
  4. Unfortunately, the mobile app does not have a way to select multiple emails, so you will have to open every email.
  5. It's at the top of the page. This will move the email to the "Deleted" folder.
    • While you are going through each email one by one, check each one to make sure you really want to delete it.
  6. To do so, tap your profile icon in the upper-left corner. Then tap Deleted in the menu.
  7. This will display a prompt asking if you want to permanently delete the email.
    • It is recommended you review the trash folder before permanently deleting everything. If you see any emails you want to keep, tap the icon next to the email to select it. Then tap the icon that resembles a folder with an arrow in the upper-right corner. Tap the folder (i.e., "Inbox") to which you want to move the email.

Using the Mail App on an iPhone or iPad

  1. This app icon looks like a white envelope on a blue background. You can find this on your dock or your home screen. The Apple Mail app is the default for iOS and macOS devices and pulls emails from linked accounts, such as Gmail and Yahoo.
  2. The search bar is at the top of the mail app, but if you don't see it, swipe down to reveal it.
    • Don't forget to tap the search icon on your keyboard. When you do press the search icon, every email from that sender is listed.
  3. You'll see this in the bottom right corner of your screen. You'll see the options for Move , Archive , Mark , and/or Delete appear.
  4. This will place a checkmark next to each email and highlight them in blue.
    • There is no option to select all emails, but you can tap the circle next to the email at the top and drag down to select multiple emails at one time.
