If you’ve been having trouble in your quest to build a family, casting a fertility spell might be just what you need. Spellcraft has long been thought to help people receive the gifts they want from the world, such as money, love, and even babies. Spells aren’t based on science, but magical traditions swear by their abilities. In this article, we’ve compiled five fertility rituals and one fertility candle recipe to help you get pregnant.
Things You Should Know
- Burn new white candles the days before, during, and after your ovulation.
- If you have a partner, have them light a candle the first and second night, then light the third one by yourself.
- State your intentions to get pregnant by saying: “The fountain of life, the ever-flowing energy, bless us with a healthy child.”
Steps
-
Track your ovulation. One of the most important parts of conceiving is timing. Twelve to 14 days after your period, your body releases an egg, which is when you’re most fertile. [1] X Trustworthy Source National Health Service (UK) Public healthcare system of the UK Go to source Use an ovulation tracking app (or a calendar) to know exactly the best time to get pregnant.
- Sperm can live in the body for up to 7 days, so you can start trying 4 days before and 3 days after ovulation.
- If you want more confirmation that you’re ovulating, use an ovulation kit or a basal thermometer . Take your basal body temperature every day to see when it raises—that will indicate that you’re ovulating.
-
Gather 3 white candles. To do this spell you need a new, unlit white candle for the day before ovulation, the day of ovulation, and the day after. [2] X Research source To make the spell more powerful, you can use homemade fertility candles or dress candles to make them specific to you.
- Dressing is the practice of imbuing a candle with your energy. You can carve your name into the candle, a symbol that represents you or your partner, or the name of the baby you want to have.
- If you’re doing IVF, center this ritual around the day the sperm and egg are combined.

Have your partner light the first candle the day before you ovulate. While holding it, ask them recite this incantation: “The fountain of life, the ever-flowing energy, bless us tomorrow with a healthy child.” [3] X Research source
- If you’re trying to get pregnant on your own, complete the steps of the ritual by yourself.
- Let each candle burn all the way down after lighting them. Blowing out the candles is thought to release the spell’s energy, so if you need to put it out for any reason, use a metal candle snuffer or put a large glass over it.
-
Light the second candle with your partner on the day of ovulation. Once again, have your partner light the candle, then hold the candle with them. Together, recite another incantation: “The fountain of life, the ever-flowing energy, bless us tonight with a healthy child.” [4] X Research source Then it’s time to get busy.
- Leave the candle burning in your bedroom while you’re actively trying to conceive.
- If you’re using donated sperm, use it on this night.
-
Light the last candle the day after your ovulation. This time, light it yourself. After, hold it and say: “The fountain of life, the ever-flowing energy, may the new life thrive and grow inside of me.” [5] X Research source
-
Take it easy while you wait. To best increase your chances of pregnancy, reduce stress in your environment and take care of your body. Strenuous exercise, as well as smoking, drinking caffeine, and drinking alcohol can make it harder to conceive. - For an extra kick, take pregnancy-boosting herbs like chasteberry
and red clover
. Speak to your doctor before you start taking any new supplements. [7]

- Make red clover tea by brewing 1 tablespoon (2 grams) of red clover in 1 cup (237 ml) of boiling water. Drink a cup each day as you approach ovulation.
- Take a 20mg capsule of dried chasteberry every morning while trying to conceive, but don’t start if you’re on progesterone, dopamine antagonist drugs, or have cancer. [8] X Trustworthy Source Cleveland Clinic Educational website from one of the world's leading hospitals Go to source

Light a white candle and smoke-cleanse your home. To banish the negative energies from your home, burn incense or smudge herbs like lavender and rosemary where you want to do the spell. Light a white candle for protection and state your intentions for the energy.
- You can say whatever feels best for you, for example: “I open this space to divine love, may all energy that flows through here hold compassion. I invite spirits of divine love and light to enter this space.”
-
Create a protection circle with salt. To keep good spirits in and bad spirits out, make a circle with an unbroken line of salt. Recite a protection prayer, like: “Keep negative energies away from this place, and fill this circle with love and light.”
- Salt is considered cleansing and a barrier against evil energies.
-
Say your desires out loud. Create your own spell by speaking your intentions, including the details of what you want during pregnancy and what you have to offer as a parent. You can say something like: “I ask for a healthy pregnancy and a new life filled with joy, and I offer my undying love and support for the life I will receive.”
- If you have a partner, they can write their own spell to say out loud here, too.
-
End the spell by closing the circle. Use your foot to make a break in the salt, then sweep it up and bury it outside. Tell the circle (and what’s been inside it!) that you’re grateful for its help and protection.

Get a clear glass bowl, a fig, and an egg. Place the bowl in the center of a table and rest the egg to the left of it and the fig to the right.
- Figs and eggs are both symbols of fertility, often used in this sort of magic. The fig is also thought to metaphorically feed the soul. [9] X Research source
-
Light a white candle and a stick of frankincense. To put energy into the spell, light a white candle and frankincense incense . Place both on the table above the bowl.
-
Combine the egg and the seeds of the fig. Carefully crack the egg (you need the shell intact for the next step) and empty it into the bowl. Use a knife or a boline (a Wiccan, scythe-like knife) to make a large slit in the fig. Scoop out the seeds and drop them into the bowl. [10] X Research source
- When you’re done pouring the egg into the bowl, place the shell back on the left side.
-
Put the rest of the fig in the eggshell. Crumple the skin of the fig and press it into the shell of the egg. This represents the baby that you’ll carry in your womb! [11] X Research source
-
Stir the mixture with your finger 3 times. Make 3 clockwise circles in the bowl and recite this incantation: "As these two become one, may the Goddess and the God bless our union with child." [12] X Research source Leave the bowl by the eggshell until the candle burns out.
-
Bury the spell ingredients. Take everything somewhere you can dig a hole (if you have a garden, bury them there). Put the eggshell into the hole and pour the contents of the bowl over it. Say “I offer to Mother Earth a symbol of fertility, in love and gratitude for her bounty.” [13] X Research source

Carve your name on the side of a tapered candle. If you’re trying to get pregnant, carve your name on the side of a pink candle . If the person you’re trying to have a baby with has low fertility, have them carve their name on the side of a blue candle .
-
Make an anointing oil in a small bowl. Mix 2 tablespoons (41 grams) of olive oil with red clover and stinging nettle essential oils. If you’re trying to raise your sperm count, use frankincense and sandalwood essential oils instead.
- You can also use coconut oil as your base.
-
Cover the candle in oil and say what you desire. Use a cotton ball to thoroughly cover the candle while telling the Universe what you want. You can even say something as simple as “I want to have a baby.” Place the candle in a holder and light it.
-
Write your intentions on colored paper. Write what you want from this spell with a pen that matches the color of your paper. You can do blue for males, and pink for females, or any color you associate yourself with. Meditate on your wishes, banishing any negative thoughts, while holding your paper up to the flame.
- You can use the color of your aura to personalize it further.
-
Repeat a fertility mantra. As you hold your paper, gaze into the flame and say: “This candle represents my longing for a child, this is my invitation to my unborn baby to join our family. We have so much love to share with you, come be with us now and forever.”
-
Burn the paper in a fireproof bowl. When you’ve finished saying the mantra, set the paper on fire and watch it burn. Keep focusing on your desire to have a baby and repeating your wishes to yourself.
- Have water and/or a fire extinguisher on hand for the sake of safety.
-
Let the candle go out by itself, then bury the spell items. Candles are fuel for spells, so blowing them out can disperse the energy you’ve gathered. Once the candle has burnt all the way down, put any remains into a jar with the ashes of the paper, and bury it (preferably in a garden).

Make a potion from watermelon, raspberries, honey, and apple cider vinegar. Blend together any amount of your ingredients and pour them into a chalice . Your “chalice” can be an ordinary cup, just as long as you only use it for magical purposes. [15] X Research source
- Watermelon represents feminine energy, raspberries represent fertility, honey represents prosperity, and apple cider vinegar represents masculine energy and protection.
- You can also add orange zest, red clover, or lavender to your potion.
-
Lay an 8 moon spell cloth on the floor. The cloth will be where you perform your ritual. If you don’t have one, take a large square of black cloth and paint 8 phases of the moon cycle on it in a circle, with the full moon at the top and the new moon at the bottom. [16] X Research source
-
Put the chalice at the top and the crystals and geodes on each of the 8 moons. Gather jade , rose quartz , carborundum , and five geodes to put on your spell cloth. Jade and rose quartz are thought to affect fertility, carborundum strengthens a spell, and the geodes represent pregnancy. [17] X Research source
- Have you or your partner crack open the geodes for the best effect (it’s pretty fun, too).
-
Set out dried daffodils, rosemary, cinnamon, and eggshells on your cloth. Pour dried daffodils (which represent spring and renewal) across the bottom of the cloth. Mix rosemary (for protection) and cinnamon (for fertility) together in a bowl and put it on the bottom left corner. Crush eggshells in a bowl and place them on the bottom right corner.
- In addition to eggshells, you can also use snakeskin. The shed skin is also thought to represent renewal and rebirth.
-
Light a green candle and a red candle and put them on the cloth. Place the green candle on the top left corner and the red on the right. Green candles are often used while performing money spells to represent receiving something. [18] X Research source Red candles are representative of lust and sex (an important part of the baby-making process).
-
Burn lavender incense. Place an incense holder parallel to the left side of the cloth. Light the incense before performing the spell.
- If you don’t have lavender incense , you can also use rose .
-
Gather the daffodils, herbs, and eggshells into a bundle. Sprinkle a little of each ingredient on a small cloth, and tie it closed with twine. Each time you pick something up, recite an incantation. [19] X Research source
- Use the spell to express your wishes. You can say something like “I wish to become fertile this night” or “I wish to conceive a healthy child.”
-
Use 18 twigs to make a doll. Gather 18 sticks of roughly equal thickness and length, at least 9 inches (23 cm). The doll will represent a pregnant body.
- Lay 7 sticks side by side, tie them together, and place the bundle on top of them. [20] X Research source
- Take 7 more sticks and lay them in the palm of your hand. Gently put the two sets together and tie them up with twine.
- Tie together 7 sticks from each set on either side. These are the legs of the doll.
- Tie 4 more sticks together and attach them perpendicular to the body of the doll. These are the arms.
-
Place the doll in the center of the spell cloth and drink the potion. After you finish, meditate on what you want to come from this spell. [21] X Research source
- You can repeat your earlier mantra, or think of a new one, like: “Let the spirits bring me my unborn child tonight.”
-
Blow out the candle and incense. When you’re done meditating, recite another incantation and blow out the candle and the incense. Say something like “Accept my offerings and bless me with a child.”
-
Put the doll under your bed. Put it under the bed you regularly have sex in and don’t remove it until you become pregnant. Wait until the next time you’re ovulating before trying the ritual again. [22] X Research source
- Getting pregnant is easiest around the time you ovulate. Keep track of your cycle with a calendar and basal thermometer, and do this spell four days before ovulation. For best results, have sex as many nights as you’re comfortable with from four days before to three days after.

Make a mold out of an eggshell. Using a nail, poke through the base of a raw egg. To make the hole large enough, carefully cut out a circle with cuticle scissors. Dump out the contents of the egg and clean it out entirely with warm water. Let the shell dry out overnight.
- Eggs are a common ingredient in fertility spells because they represent new life and birth.
-
Tie a candle wick around a toothpick and hang it in the egg. Measure the wick slightly longer than the egg and tie it around a toothpick. Steady the egg in a carton or shot glass and hang the wick directly in the center. Keep it in place by laying the toothpick across the edges of the opening.
- Many craft stores sell candle wicks, but if you’re in an especially DIY mood, you can make your own wick at home.
-
Melt white or red wax and fill the egg halfway up. Cut up chunks of candle wax and put them in a heat-safe bowl. Rest the bowl on top of a saucepan filled three-quarters of the way with water and bring it to a simmer. Wait for the wax to completely melt and pour it into the egg until it’s halfway full. Let it cool overnight.
- At this stage you can add fertility-boosting herbs like chasteberry, red clover, or lavender.
-
Fill the egg the rest of the way with wax and take it out of the mold. The next day, fill the eggshell to the top and let it cool completely. Chip away the shell from the candle and you’re done!
-
Burn the candle while stating your intentions to have a baby. Light the candle and meditate on your desires until it burns itself out.
- You can also use this candle in the three candle spell , or the simple candle spell .
