Download Article
Do you want to share a YouTube video on Facebook? YouTube makes it easy to share videos on social media from your Android, iPhone, iPad, or computer. When you share a video from YouTube on Facebook, viewers can click or tap the preview to start playing the video on YouTube. If you'd rather your friends be able to watch the video without going to YouTube, you can upload the video to Facebook instead.
Quick Steps

- Click or tap the Share button (the arrow).
- Select Facebook .
- Create your post and select Share or Post .
Steps

Search for a video on YouTube. Enter a video title (or a keyword related to the video you want to share) and press Enter or Return to search.
- You don't need to log into YouTube unless you plan on linking to an age-restricted YouTube video.
-
Select a video. Locate and click the video you wish to post to open the video. You can click the thumbnail image or the title.Advertisement

Understand the limitations of this method. To post a video to Facebook and have it play on Facebook rather than redirect to YouTube, you'll have to download the video in question and upload it to Facebook . Facebook videos must meet the following criteria:
- Facebook only allows videos of up to 10 gigabytes and no longer than 240 minutes.
- Videos should have a resolution of 1080p or less.
- Use this method only if you or your organization created and owns the copyright to the original video or if you have permission from the copyright owner. Simply adding video credit by adding their name to the Facebook post is unlikely to be good enough.
-
Search for a video on YouTube. If you use the mobile app, tap the magnifying glass icon in the upper-right corner to search. On desktop, click the search bar at the top, type the name of a video that you want to download, and press Enter or Return .
-
Select the video you want to post on Facebook. Click or tap the video's thumbnail on the results page to open it.
-
Copy the video's address. To do so, click or tap Share below the video, then tap Copy link on mobile, or click Copy next to the URL on a computer.
-
Open the Keepvid website. The Keepvid site allows you to convert YouTube links, such as the one you copied, into MP4 video files, which can then be downloaded. Go to https://www.keepvid.to/ in a new tab.
- If the Keepvid site is down or not working, check out our guide to downloading YouTube videos in other ways.
-
Paste in your video's address. Click the text box below the "Search video by typing it or paste the video link and hit Go" heading, then press Ctrl + V (PC) or Command + V (Mac). You should see the YouTube link appear in the text box.
-
Download the video. Scroll down and click Download next to the video. This will start processing the video, which may take several minutes. Your video will download automatically when it is finished.
- By default, your downloaded files can be found in your Downloads folder.
-
Open Facebook. On mobile, open the Facebook app. On desktop, go to https://www.facebook.com/ in your browser. This will open your Facebook News Feed if you're logged into Facebook.
- If you aren't logged into Facebook, enter your email address (or phone number) and password, then click Log In .
-
Click or Photo/Video icon. On mobile, it's the green icon to the right of the "What's on your mind?" text field at the top. On desktop, it's the middle button below the "What's on your mind?" text field at the top of the page.
-
Add the video to your post. To do so on mobile, tap the video you downloaded. On desktop, drag and drop the video file to the box that says "Add Photos/Videos" in the center of the screen.
- On mobile, you can post the video as a Reel . To do so, tap Create reel . If you'd rather post the video as a post, tap, '"Create post instead .
-
Add text to your post. Type whatever text you want to accompany the video into the text field at the top of the post box. This is where you should assign credit (e.g., "Video courtesy of [username]") at the very least.
- Use the drop-down menu at the top to select who gets to see your video. You can select "Public," "Friends", "Friends except," "Specific friends," or "Close Friends."
- On mobile, you can also use the drop-down menus at the top to select if you want to post the video to Instagram or Threads.
-
Tap Next (mobile only). It's in the upper-right corner. This will take you to a page you can use to schedule your post. If you want to schedule your post, use the drop-down menu below "Scheduling options" to select when the post will go public.
-
Click or tap Post . On mobile, it's the blue button in the upper-right corner. On the desktop, there's a blue button at the bottom of the window. Doing so will upload the video to Facebook, though you will have to wait several minutes before the video finishes processing.
