But if it's a functional pack you should be able to extract a functional cell. Be warned that packs may be made with cells that are not a typical consumer size, e.g. AA, and the contacts/terminals may be spot welded together. If you pierce the cells or damage a contact while disassembling, you could create a dangerous or just plain useless dead battery.
