How do I get rid of the protective plastic on old Plexiglass?

If it's SprayLat coating, WD-40 does a reasonable job of working the stuff free. Naptha is good. But be sure you know whether it is plexi or polycarbonate, as poly is easily damaged by petroleum distillates. With the blue plastic film, it can be softened and removed using a hair dryer. Gently warm it to soften it. Be careful not to get the plexi too hot.

How do I clean plexiglass that's cloudy due to cleaning it with alcohol when there was glue on it?

The cloudiness might be residual glue that thinned down from the alcohol. Use an acrylic safe product like Brillianize or Novus #1 to wet it down and wipe with a microfiber cloth. It's the cloth that'll remove the glue, but make sure to only wipe plexiglass that's wet and use a clean area of the cloth each time. If that doesn't work after multiple attempts, Novus also makes a more aggressive plastic polish. Spray on and buff with a microfiber cloth. I use it all the time with sneeze guards, sunglasses, motorcycle goggles, and clear helmet visors.
