    You need to used a jetted tub cleaner to remove harmful contamination inside the plumbing lines. Even if you don't use the jets, water drains back into the lines and is a perfect breeding ground for bacteria.

    You can find several good jetted tub cleaners on Amazon. These cleaners are designed to remove this type of contamination. Older tubs may take several cleanings since the old contamination may come off in layers and is more difficult to remove.
