You just have to plug the printer in and Windows 10 will automatically install the drivers necessary for it to work. If that doesn't work, then you could manually install them by going to the website of your printer's company or by installing them via the CD provided with the printer. You can also go to devices and printers and you can try adding the printer from there.

You cannot print if the USB cable of the printer is disconnected from your device. The USB cable must be connected while printing, or planning to print. If the reason you have disconnected is because of the cable taking space, check if your printer has Bluetooth or similar wireless methods, and connect to your printer that way.
