Soft yarn and lightweight fabrics like cotton, wool, or bamboo should be chosen. Superfine and fine yarn must not be used because they can be difficult to work with and it will not keep the baby sufficiently warm. Remember, the most important thing is to choose a yarn that is gentle for your baby's delicate skin.
  • Question
How do I do a single crochet stitch?
    Michele
    Top Answerer
Easy. Insert your hook into the first chain or stitch and pull up a loop. You will have two loops on your hook. Grab the yarn and pull a loop through the two loops on you hook. You've just made a single crochet. Also see single crochet .
  • Question
Would the number of stitches be different if I'm making it for a 2-year-old?
    Michele
    Top Answerer
It's hard to know this. You start with 12 chain stitches for the sole and go around doing the increases until you reach the size you need. The best you can do is guesstimate how big it needs to be. Most of the instructions out there are for newborns, though there are some for slippers for older children.
  • Question
How do I crochet the sole for the right bootie? Tutorials just show one foot.
    Michele

In most bootie tutorials, including the one here, there is no left or right foot. The sole of the bootie is the same: thinner at the heel, and a little wider at the toes.

  • Question
How do you get 24 stitches out of 10 in the first round? I come up with 20.
    Community Answer
To get 24 counts by the end of round 1, single crochet in the 2nd chain from the hook and in the next 8 chains. in the last stitch, put 5 single crochet. Then, working along the opposite side of the chain, single crochet in the next 8 chains and in the last chain put 2 single crochet. Finally join with a slip stitch in the first single crochet. This will give 24 stitches.

  • Question
How do I do 2 stitches together when crocheting baby booties?
    Rox The Rock
    Community Answer
If this is in single crochet, put your hook in the next stitch as if you want to single crochet, but just keep that loop on your hook. So now you have 2 loops on your hook. Go into the next stitch with your hook and once you've got 3 loops on your hook, yarn over and pull through all 3. If you're doing double crochet, then at the start before putting your hook through the stitch, yarn over once then do the same thing
  • Question
How do I do a half double stitch?
    Emery Cailin
    Top Answerer
First, yarn over once, like you're starting a double crochet. Put your hook through the stitch and pull a loop through. Your hook will now have three loops on it. Yarn over again, and pull the yarn through all three of loops on your hook. For more detail and pictures, check out How to Half Double Crochet .
  • Question
How many chains must you start with to make a booties?
    Community Answer
Make a chain of 11 stitches. That is what it says at the beginning of the third step. Follow along from there.
  • Question
How can I make baby booties not so wide on the middle?
    Tianna Schwindel
    Community Answer
If the booties are too wide in the middle for you, you can try decreasing by a few stitches on each side. This will decrease the size of the row(s) in the middle, making it smaller. To decrease, you insert your hook into the next working stitch, wrap the yarn over and pull it out, insert the hook into the stitch after that, and wrap the yarn and pull it out, wrap the yarn around the hook and pull it through all the stitches on your hook. this decreases the two stitches into 1 stitch.
