Hold the top of it. Grab the ribbon with a finger and nail on your other hand. Let the fingernail slide tightly down the ribbon to curl it.
  • Question
I am a beginner for wrapping presents and am not that good with bows. Do you know a few tips?
    Community Answer
Have someone hold the first part of the bow down while you tie. remember, it's just like tying the second part of the square knot except with loops instead. If you still can't get it, you can use a pre-made bow or fake a bow by using overhand knots to make loops and arrange them into place.

There are various reasons as to why the ribbon may not be curling all the way, including that the piece used is too long, the action made to curl the ribbon was not done correctly, the ribbon is old and possible fraying, or it's in poor condition, etc.
