I have a level 88 Machamp (my other Pokemon vary in level from 34 to 48), but nothing I do is working against Red.

You need to level up your Pokemon like crazy, since one strong one will not do the trick. Use type advantage too, and bring in some strong ones like Dragonite and some legendaries. Give them items to cover their weaknesses. Train them up in Mt. Silver and defeat the gym leaders again.

Perish song is a good move to use if you're having trouble with a Pokemon such as Snorlax. However, it can affect your Pokemon as well as Red's Pokemon. If you are planning to use perish song, switch out your Pokemon after using it so your Pokemon doesn't faint. If it does faint though, you can always use a revive.

Every npc in the game is easily defeated if you use setup moves like swords dance and dragon dance. 2 dragon dances on your Dragonite should be enough to sweep (kill) his entire team as 2 dragon dances multiply your attack and speed by 2.
