  • Question
How can I make natural fertilizer from things at home?
    Alex Samin
    Community Answer
Take some banana peel, wait for it to rot, then mix it with water, and TADA, it's fertilizer.
  • Question
Should compost in potted plants be renewed? If so, how often?
    Community Answer
It won't need to, unless the plant gets too large for the pot. Then you should put the plant in a bigger pot with the same compost, then add some on top.
  • Question
What is the best soil to use for growing vegetable (chili or curry leaf) plants indoors?
    Alex Samin
    Community Answer
A pH of 6 or 7; normal soil would be just fine in most cases.
  • Question
Can I put decorations in my pot?
    Alex Samin
    Community Answer
Of course you can, as long as they're plant-safe, but I would suggest on the outside of the pot would be safest and best.
  • Question
What do I do if my potted plant's leaves are turning yellow and my plant is dying?
    Community Answer
Depending on the plant, you may be able to revive it. Clip off the leaves and water it normally.
  • Question
Is mixing topsoil and compost okay for potting plants?
    Plant Geek
    Community Answer
Yes, with some additions to improve aeration and drainage. I use topsoil (garden soil from a local nursery) and add coarse sand, vermiculite, sphagnum peat moss, and compost. I use about half topsoil and roughly equal parts of the others. Perlite is a good addition to improve drainage in heavy soil.
