If you want to lessen the time, feed the zombie the golden apple directly after hitting it with the potion. Tip: Keep a bucket of milk nearby. You will also get the weakness effect when hitting the zombie. Drink the milk to get rid of the potion.

Make sure it is night. Then, throw the splash potion and jump out of the way. If you don't move, you will get the weakness effect as well. After, immediately feed the zombie villager a golden apple. You do this by tapping on the mob. A button labeled as "cure" will pop up. Press the button, then wait 4-5 minutes in real time (not ticks). Afterward, let out the cured villager. Tip: Trap the zombie villager, just in case it doesn't work. It may attack you once the effect wears off, catching you by surprise.
