  • Question
How can I improve my drawing skills?
    Community Answer
Practice, practice, practice. Doodle here and there, but never give up. Don't compare yourself to others. Your art style is unique, and there is no other artist like you.
  • Question
Can I have a female fursona if I'm a boy?
    Community Answer
Yes! Your fursona doesn't have to be a direct copy of yourself, so you can choose whichever gender you'd like for your character.
  • Question
Am I still considered a furry even if I don't get a fur suit?
    Community Answer
Of course. Most furries only have ears or a tail and some don't have anything at all.
  • Question
Can my fursona be based off my real self in terms of the traits, downfalls, likes, dislikes, and name?
    Garrett
    Top Answerer
Absolutely. There aren't any "rules" when it comes to creating a fursona. Whatever you feel the most comfortable with is what you should go with.
  • Question
Why is it hard to come up with one?
    Community Answer
It really comes down to your imagination. If you have a broad, active imagination, then you will have an easier time. Don't worry though -- something will come to you eventually! You could always do some research on existing fursonas for inspiration.
  • Question
What do you do if people call you names or make fun of you?
    Community Answer
Ignore them -- people online and sometimes even in real life do not understand nor accept furry culture, and believe furries to be deviants. If you have a good relationship with the person, such as the person being your friend or relative, you can attempt to talk to them about what being a furry is really about. However, if it's someone you don't know on the internet, you'd be best to ignore them and not start an argument.
  • Question
Can I be a furry if I have autism?

  • Question
How do you choose your animal?
    Community Answer
Pick whatever animal is your favorite or that you think suits you. There are even a few "What is Your Fursona" tests that you can take online to help you find yours. There is no wrong answer here, so be creative.
  • Question
Does a fursuit nessicarily have to be made of fur?
    Community Answer
Not necessarily! Many creatures such as dragons are often made of fleece, minky, or another soft material to keep a soft feel to the character but not use fur specifically. There are also fursuit head styles called "skull-faced fursuits" that involve the fursuit's face being a skull, and they are resin based usually.
  • Question
    Can I be a furry if I'm a teenager?
    Community Answer
Of course. There's no age requirement for being a furry!

  • Question
What if my parents don't want me to be a furry?
    Community Answer
You can attempt to show them videos on YouTube properly explaining the furry fandom to try to get them to accept it. However, if they do not and you are still dependent on them, you may want to avoid bringing up being a furry to them in the future, and wait until you move out to get a fursuit if you plan to.
  • Question
After a year of making my fursona, I have noticed multiple accounts online using the name and species. What should I do?
    Community Answer
This could be just a coincidence, as you might have a common name and species. If they have a drawing that you made, then they are stealing your art and you should ask them to take it down or report them on that website.
  • Question
Is it a requirement to have anxiety and bad social skills to be a furry?
    Community Answer

  • Question
    What about size and age?
    Community Answer
The size and age of your Fursona is completely up to you, although you may want to research the animal you chose. For example, if your Fursona is a bear, you may want to have it be taller and heavier than you are. Remember, a Fursona represents you, so using your own height and weight works as well.
  • Question
Why is it so hard to find colors I want?
    Community Answer
If you're having trouble with colors, I would recommend picking 2-3 warm, cold, or earthy colors (reds, blues, or browns). If you want pops of color, do white.
  • Question
What if I can't draw well? Or make a suit? I'm a beginner!
    Community Answer
You can color your fursona onto a premade base from deviantART or FurAffinity. You can also commission or request an artist to draw your fursona for you. You can commission fursuit makers to make you a fursuit, but you need to save up quite a bit, as they can cost thousands of dollars.
  • Question
    Is being a furry bad?
    Garrett
    Top Answerer
That depends on how you look at it. There's no getting around the negative connotations associated with being a furry. That could affect your experience if you let it. But being a furry is not harmful to you or others. If you go into it expecting it to be bad, then chances are you are going to have a bad time.
  • Question
Can my original character be two different animals put together?
    Community Answer
Sure! There are many furry hybrids out there, like the folf (fox/wolf). Sometimes people can't choose just one animal that represents them.

Is the furry community accepting of genderqueer/non-binary people?
    Garrett
    Top Answerer
Yes it is. The furry community does its best to be inclusive to people from all walks of life.
  • Question
Should I get a fursuit? I want one, but I'm worried that I will grow out of it.
    Community Answer
If you fear you will grow out of a fursuit, it may be best to wait until you are finished growing in the 18-20 year old range. However, if you are financially able to afford a fursuit and really want to buy one, it may benefit you to get a partial, which includes a head, paws, feet and a tail, so the worst case scenario is you need to buy new feet or new hands, which are relatively cheap at about $20-50 for hands (depending on if they're puffy or not) and $100-200 for feet. While it's a lot, you can wash up and pawn off your old feet on FurBuy granted they aren't falling apart, and it's a lot less of a loss than having to reinvest in a whole bodysuit, which would cost you $1,500-$2,500.

    Balin Brown
    Community Answer
The species thing is no big deal, but you might want to be a little more careful on the name bit, or else it might come off as tacky. If you really want to, though, go for it.
  • Question
I know the animal I want but whenever I imagine my furry, it isn't the animal I planned on! Should I make a hybrid of the two, or just do the one I imagined?
    Garrett
    Top Answerer
Try doing both. It's not uncommon for ideas to evolve as you go. Just see where your creativity leads to. Once you've given both routes a chance, decide which seems more appealing to you, and go with that one.
  • Question
Is it stereotypical to be a furry if I already identify as LGBT?
    Garrett
    Top Answerer
No. These things do not go hand-in-hand. If you identify as LGBTQ+, then that's swell! The furry fandom will welcome you into their ranks regardless. But being a furry is just an entertainment hobby. It should not be tied to your sexual orientation.
