How do I resolve error "FAILED TO BIND PORT" when I'm trying to add my own server IP in properties?

The server IP in properties should always be left blank. It is used when large hosting companies set up servers. When people connect to your server, they use your internet IP, then your port (by default, the Minecraft port is 25565). The way many servers use letters in their host names is by using domain name servers - those are special servers that translate letter domains into numbers. So to solve your problem, simply leave that area blank. It's not how you set up your IP.

Whenever I try to search my IP address, it says things like "Cumincad references, TOC for Robots." When I Google "my IP address," I get a string of 25 numbers and letters. What does this mean?

You might be getting a 128 bit IPv6 address instead of the standard 32 bit IPv4 address. Minecraft doesn't support IPv6 yet. You have to change your router and/or computer settings. Then you can Google "What is my IP?" and share that address with your friends. The address should look something like 72.52.4.120. The numbers may be different, but there should be four sections separated by periods.

On the batch file there is the specific code java -Xms512m -Xmx1G -jar minecraft_server.exe. Change -Xms512m -Xmx1G - to -Xms256m -Xmx512m - or the RAM you want to use. If the RAM you use is higher than your computer's RAM, then the server can't run.

When starting a dedicated server, is a brand new Minecraft World created for this or can I specify which world the server will link to?

Yes. If you are using a map you made in Minecraft go to where the world is (by default it is in Roaming, go to run (WIN+R) and type %appdata% and click .minecraft). Go to saves and look for what you named the world (not all characters render in filename, "Jason's World ^.^" would be "jasons_world") and copy the file into your server files. Delete the "World" file and rename the file you just copied "World."
