    Expert Answer
There are many videos online to show you how to make pompoms with a fork, with a tool made out of a cardboard tube, or with your fingers. I prefer the simple fingers method, which you can read about in this article.
  • Question
I want to brush out my pompom, so that it looks like fur. How can I do this?
    Mo.mow.mo.money
    Community Answer
Try using a fine-toothed comb, and brush with small strokes starting at the ends and gradually go closer to the center.
  • Question
How do I make it into a ball shape?
    Community Answer
Roll it and trim it. You have to roll the ball of the pom pom and trim the yarn of the ball to make it look good.
  • Question
Can I use four fingers instead of two or three?
    Community Answer
Yes. That will make it even bigger! It will just use a little more yarn.
  • Question
How do I attach this to my crocheted hat?
    Community Answer
You can take a piece of yarn that matches your hat, wrap the yarn around the middle of the pom pom, put the yarn through the top of the hat onto the inside, and then tie a knot to keep the pom pom on.
  • Question
Is there a specific way I'm supposed to tie the pompom?
    Potatoestosee
    Community Answer
You can just use an everyday knot, but it must be around the bundle, as shown.
  • Question
Which method is best to use if I have trouble doing it right with the cardboard one and only have a little bit of wool?
    Community Answer
Personally I would use the fork method because it makes smaller pom poms. This will help you with your problem of having a small amount of wool.
  • Question
My pompom has a line in the middle from where I tied it and even though I trimmed it the line made, it looks ugly.
    Natasha McCormick
    Community Answer
There are many things that could be wrong. One is that you may not have used enough yarn. Another is that you may need to shape the pompom. Finally, it could be that you did not tie the pompom tightly enough.
  • Question
    Do pom-poms make good gifts?
    Natasha McCormick
    Community Answer
Pom-poms make amazing gifts for the right recipient. If it is something you think the person would use, like if they, for example, crochet hats, then that would make a good gift because they can use it for their projects. As long as you can think of a way that specific person would use it (even if you think they will just use it for decor), then it is a good gift.
  • Question
Is it better to have thick yarn or thin?
    Community Answer
You can use both thick and thin yarn, it's just whichever one you prefer.
  • Question
How can I attach the pom poms to a long piece of yarn to use as decor in my room with lots of pom poms along it?
    Community Answer
When you tie it round the middle, you can use a longer piece of yarn and then only cut one side after you knot it.
  • Question
What do I do if the yarn pompoms are being pulled out?
    Community Answer
Try to put another tie through the middle to reinforce. If this does not work, then create another pompom with a tighter not, or use a less slick yarn.
  • Question
Can I use super chunky yarn for a pompom?
    Community Answer
Yes but don't use as much yarn, as your pompom will turn out to be huge. But if you want a smaller pompom, then use smaller yarn as it would turn out better.
  • Question
After sewing on my pompom it looks too big, how can I trim it down to make it appear smaller?
    Community Answer
If you want it to be smaller, you can take the pompom off and then trim the yarn even more. If you want it to appear smaller, cut the yarn but don't cut into whatever you are sewing it onto.
  • Question
What is the best type of yarn to use for pompoms?
    Community Answer
It depends on the size of the fingers; my fingers are about a centimeter in width, and worsted weight is what I use. Try different yarn types to see which you like working with best.
  • Question
What do I do if my yarn pompom is flat?
    T. Chinsen
    Top Answerer
Not enough yarn was used to make it fluffy. Make a second pom pom using at least 3-4 times more yarn. Look at the article pictures as a guide. With the tie cords for each pom pom (flat and second), tie them to each other. As an alternative, take the tie cords of your flat pom pom and use it to tie off the second pom pom.
  • Question
Do I have to use yarn to make a yarn pompom, or can I use embroidery floss?
    T. Chinsen
    Top Answerer
You can use embroidery floss if you prefer. Just keep in mind that the floss is 1/10 the thickness of yarn, so you will have to use 10 times more floss than yarn for the same size of pom pom.
