  • Question
What if my friend groped my first love, when she told me she would never do that? Why am I feeling so angry and mad at them? Am I overreacting?
    Community Answer
You're not overreacting. You have a right to be angry about that. Tell your friend how you feel if you want to try to mend the friendship. If she apologizes, try to accept it gracefully and move on. If you don't think you'll be able to get over it, find a new friend.
  • Question
If you tell them you're jealous, won't they leave you for being petty?
    Community Answer
A real friend wouldn't drop you just because you have a certain feeling. You should try not to be petty, but it's also natural to envy people sometimes, and you should be honest with your friend. Surely your friends feel jealousy sometimes, too. Everyone does. It's only a problem if you're mean-spirited about it and try to bring your friend down. You can be jealous in a friendly way.

  • Question
I saw my best friend walking and talking with another friend of his, and I felt jealous. I know it's okay for him to have other friends, but it really upset me. Why did I feel this, and what can I do?
    Tom De Backer
    Top Answerer
You felt it because you are human. If I suddenly get the thought, "I like strawberries" when I hate them, that thought didn't magically change my tastes. It's just a thought. And yours was just a feeling. Feel free to consider it once it rushes into you, think about it, then discard it. Feelings must be taken seriously, but they don't define you.
  • Question
Whenever my best friend is with me, she never posts anything on social media, but whenever she's with anyone else, she posts selfies and pics all the time. Should I feel weird about this?
    Community Answer
Think of it this way: maybe your best friend has so much fun with you that she's not worried about being on social media, and she uses it as a distraction with other people. There is also the more unpleasant possibility that she just doesn't putting you on her social media pages as much as some of her other friends. However, you won't know for sure unless you confront her. Just mention it casually and ask her why she never seems to post photos of you two.
  • Question
My friend got a better part in the school play, and I'm jealous. What should I do?
    Community Answer
It's normal to feel jealous. If it's a role that you've wanted to play, then that's understandable. It would be good to think twice about this situation. Is it worth being jealous or upset over? No, because the play isn't going to last forever. Your friend should mean more to you than this play.
  • Question
How do I not get jealous of my best friend having someone stay the night instead of me?

  • Question
I'm jealous of my friend, who gets to travels to expensive places. What should I do?
    Tom De Backer
    Top Answerer
Friendship is based on respect, trust, fun and shared interests. A friend is someone you can count on in bad times, and have fun with in good times. It doesn't matter how much money they have. You can't expect them not to travel just because you can't. If you'd like to travel, but can't afford it, consider rearranging your financial goals to include travelling more, or just be happy for your friend.

  • Question
My best friend is getting a job in my office. I am even the person who forwarded her CV to the office, but now I am insecure. I think she will steal my thunder, plus she always wants to get the things I like. I like a guy at my office and she knows, what do I do?
    Tom De Backer
    Top Answerer
Keep your professional and personal interactions separate. Make it clear how you would like the professional interaction to go. You can't already accuse her before she might have done anything wrong. If you really like the guy, make a move. Don't just sit around or sooner or later, someone will come along, whether it's your friend or someone else. If you're not actively trying to make it work, and she likes him too, she has every right to pursue him as well.
  • Question
Is it okay to like a person, then later feel absolutely nothing for him or her?
    Tom De Backer
    Top Answerer
Of course that's OK. Feelings come and go. We like people much more often than we love them, and nothing is really permanent. You can like someone before you really got to know them well, and then see that it's not really your thing and the feeling goes away. It's also why it's a good idea to not immediately tell someone you like them. However, you should also be honest. If you made a friendship or even a romantic relationship, and you don't like them anymore, let them know.

    Community Answer
If this was a one time thing, and she is usually a good friend, try to let it go. If she does this kind of thing often, and refuses to listen to you when you tell her you're upset about something, she's not a good friend and you should distance yourself from her.
  • Question
How do I not get jealous when my best friend is always hanging out with another friend instead of me?
    Community Answer

I have this opposite-gender friend that I can constantly open up to and tell my feelings to. I don't like her in a romantic way, but I keep getting jealous when my best friend (same gender) approaches her. What should I do?

Don't be jealous; you can't control anyone else's feelings. Also, think about why you are jealous. If you don't like her in a romantic way and if you can't find any reason, try to not let it show and don't let it bother you. If you do that, hopefully it will be gone or you will at least not notice it. If you discover you're jealous because you do like your friend, talk to her about it.

  • Question
What do I do if my best friend found someone else and completely ditched me? We all have the same friend circle, so I can't just not see her anymore. She acts like nothing happened.
    Tom De Backer
    Top Answerer
Friendships come and go, it's a fact of life. To her, indeed nothing may have happened. She may still consider the two of you best friends, but she's also working on her new friendship. So assume that, and keep up your part of the friendship: take an interest in her new friendship, ask her how it's going, share these feelings together. If it's really over, then just be polite and kind if it's not possible to ban her from your life. Give yourself time to grieve, and perhaps ask her what happened, though she's not obligated to answer. Finally, focus on your other friends, too.
  • Question

  • Question
I feel jealous because my best friend says he's too busy for me, but makes time for his girlfriend and other friend. I constantly feel left out and jealous. What can I do so that they will include me?
    Community Answer
Tell your best friend how you feel. Mention that it seems like he spends a lot of time with his other friends and that you'd like to be included. He probably doesn't even realize he's doing this. Speak up and see how it goes, just stay calm during the conversation and express how you're feeling. If he still doesn't have time for you after having this conversation, it might be necessary to find some new friends.
