    Expert Answer
Yes, you can. As with a normal painting process, you can spray, brush, or roll paint onto stucco. The best choice will just depend on how large the area is. Just make sure to mask everything while painting, from window sills to eaves, especially if you're spraying.
  • Question
How can I match the color?
    CurtM
    Community Answer
Unless you know the exact shade used on the surface previously, this can be quite difficult. If you're unable to find an exact match, you may have no choice but to paint over the existing color with a similar shade. For future reference, you're better off sticking to basic shades such as white, tan, and eggshell when painting stucco, as these are easier to match for follow-up paint jobs.
  • Question
How long do I have to wait after it rains to paint the outside of a stucco and wood-trimmed house?
    Community Answer
This depends on many things, like outdoor temperature and humidity. You have to be completely sure the wood is dry.
  • Question
Can I put stucco paint on a wood surface that has gone chalky and flaky?
    Community Answer
Fix the wood by grinding down some of it, screw in some wire mesh and then put fix-all (also called quick-fix), which is an exterior/interior patch. Then paint it. You can also use acrylic fillers, but they tend to take a long time to harden.
  • Question
How does a stucco painted house look?
    Community Answer
It depends, but I think they look good. You can look online for images of "stucco painted houses" and see if you like the way it looks in some examples.
  • Question
Should a fresh stucco be sealed?
    Community Answer
Yes. It is important to let the stucco cure at least 30 days because the Basic PH will burn paints. Then, use an exterior primer especially made for stucco. Then, use an exterior paint. If you miss any of these steps, the paint will peel off later. You can also bypass the primer step by buying exterior paint with primer in it.
  • Question
Is it advisable to change the color and type of paint on top of existing colored/painted stucco that is over 20 years old?
    Community Answer
Yes. If your wall is clean and primed, the new paint will stick and the color underneath will not show.
  • Question
Do you have to use sealant on a stucco house that has been painted 3 times in 20 years and is in good condition?
    CurtM
    Community Answer
Ordinarily no, but if your stucco surface has been repainted 3 times in 20 years, this could be a sign that you're not using the right kind of paint or environmental conditions are working against you. In either case, a separate sealant is recommended.
  • Question
What type of primer should I use for my exterior walls before applying two coats of acrylic?
    CurtM
    Community Answer
A separate primer shouldn't be necessary when painting stucco with acrylic paint.
  • Question
Is it best to roll the paint on exterior stucco or can I spray two coats?
    CurtM
    Community Answer
Either method will work. Most experts recommended rolling the paint onto broad areas before using a handheld brush to fill in the gaps. These tools will minimize the chance of mistakes and afford you greater control over where the paint ends up.
  • Question
Should I use flat or satin paint on stucco?
    Community Answer
I would suggest satin paint if you dislike dirt getting stuck to the walls of the stucco, but if you don't mind, I would then suggest flat, because, to most people, it is aesthetically more appealing. However, I have heard that acrylic paint is better than flat or satin.
