  • Question
Must you always follow the suit played before you?
    Quilter gardener
    Community Answer
Yes, if you can. If not, then you can sluff a card you know you can't win.
  • Question
Can I use two decks of cards when playing Oh Hell?
    Community Answer
Yes, although we've played a single deck with up to nine players with good fun.
  • Question
When playing with six players, how many decks do you need?
    Community Answer
Just one deck (minus the Joker). You only deal an equal number of cards to each player. First deal and play with one card, then 2, then 3, etc., each time shuffling all the cards until you deal 8 to each player (52 cards divided by 6 players=8). The rules here say the first to 100 points wins, but I like to go back down from 8, then 7, etc. until we're at 1 card again. Doing so makes for a longer game.
  • Question
Can I play this game with just two people?
    Community Answer
Yes, but it's more fun with a bigger group.
  • Question
Can trump be led before it is broken?
    Community Answer
    No.
  • Question
How do you take out cards when only playing with three people?
    Quilter gardener
    Community Answer
It doesn't matter how many people play. When you deal and there are extra cards left, you place them in the pile of cards that have already been set aside. What happens is that you can end up with a card as small as a 2 winning a trick as the size of the deck decreases.
  • Question
Does an "Oh Hell" game exist in which you lose points if you don't make your bid? For example, if I bid 2 and make 0 or 1, I would have 20 points deducted from my score.
    Community Answer
I’ve played a version like that. We counted tricks as 11 points each. A zero bid was worth 10 points if made. Losing with a bid of 1 was -11 or losing with a bid of 2 was -22.
  • Question
Does the player who takes the trick lead the next hand?
    Community Answer
There are several tricks in the same round. Players alternate dealing rounds to the left starting with the player that cuts the highest card.
  • Question
When trumps are played, must I try to beat that card?
    Community Answer
No. Also, you do not have to trump if you cannot follow suit.
  • Question
If I haven't played a suit and the person in front of me plays trump, do I have to play a higher card than her trump card?
    Community Answer
Trump cannot be played until it has been broken. That means that somewhere in the game, someone led a suit that was not trump and someone else played a trump - trump is broken. Now that that has occurred, trump can be led and no, you do not have to play a higher card unless it is to your advantage to do so.
  • Question
Can I use 2 decks when playing Oh Hell?
    Community Answer
Not really, as you then have 2 cards of every number and suit. Best numbers are 5 and 6. Each number of players changes the game, especially with bidding.
