  • Question
The dog that I adopted yesterday urinated on my bed for the first time. What do I do?
    Community Answer
Try the hydrogen peroxide-baking soda-dish soap solution, but mix them carefully - don't shake it, or it'll bubble like crazy. Any essential oil (I use lavender) helps dilute any potential smell from the dog puddle.
  • Question
    Where do I get borax?
    Community Answer
You can find borax in the laundry section at most grocery stores.
  • Question
I have a very bad urine area in my mattress, that was covered by sheets. (So I guess the smell wasn't as bad as the stain). Now that it is dry, it has left a very bad yellow stain. Any advice on how to get rid of it?

    Community Answer
Use a hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and dish detergent solution to help lift the stain. If the stain is stubborn, create a dry foam with laundry detergent and water. Vacuum the mattress once the stain is lifted.
  • Question
Will vinegar tell the smell of human incontinence?
    Kaitlyn Wislang
    Community Answer
White vinegar will help to neutralize the smell of urine and to remove the odor.
  • Question
Should I blot or rub the solution in after I spray the area?
    Kaitlyn Wislang
    Community Answer
If you are using a white vinegar solution to remove a wet stain, you can just let it sit and don't need to blot the area. If you are using a hydrogen peroxide solution blot it lightly before letting it sit.
  • Question
Can I use the hydrogen peroxide + baking soda + dish soap mix on a FRESH stain after applying baking soda to the partially dried mattress?
    Community Answer
In my opinion, this is not a good idea because of the strength of them all combined. Just dab it with a dry sponge and then sprinkle borax on it. Leave it to dry, then vacuum it up.
  • Question
Where can I find hydrogen peroxide for sale?
    Community Answer
You can find it at your local grocery store or pharmacy. It is inexpensive.
  • Question
Can I use baking soda while the mattress is still damp?
    Community Answer
Yes but you have to leave it to dry after otherwise it will discolor the bedding and your bed will be whiter or brighter than usual, which you don't want.
  • Question
Is hydrogen peroxide the same as bleach when removing urine stains from a mattress?
    Community Answer
Urine contains a form of ammonia, and bleach mixed with ammonia is dangerous to health (the fumes could cause severe illness or worse). Hydrogen peroxide is a viable solution to use on urine stains, and also can clean wounds to an extent, whereas bleach is not for cleaning wounds.
