What should I do if I replaced my windshield and the wipers aren't on correctly?

Note the position of the far end of the wiper along the windshield. You will need this reference position to change from later when you reattach the wiper arm to the pivot shaft. Remove the nut that holds the wiper arm to the pivot shaft. Then, pull the wiper arm from the pivot shaft. The pivot shaft has splines much like the outside of a quarter to position the wiper arm along the windshield. Depending on the make and age of your car, you may have to use a puller of some sort to get it to break free. Don't use a pry bar or you could damage the paint/body or crack your windshield. (Some auto parts stores will loan tools for a deposit.) Reattach the wiper arm and re-tighten the pivot nut.

No significant damage to the bodywork should occur. Any bare metal found on the pinchweld after removal and cutting old urethane back should be treated appropriately. Trims will vary depending on the vehicle, and it is not always possible to re-use old trims and clips. Check prior to replacement, as some will need to be fitted at the same time as the windshield, as it also relies on adhesion to urethane.
