Why is my scanned document coming out blurry?

Maybe you moved your document while it was scanning or the bed is smudged. Try cleaning the bed with a soft cloth and don't touch it when putting the document onto the bed. Don't touch the document while it is being scanned.

My scan only comes up as an image. I want to send it for others to open. How do I do this?

There should be an option as to what file type you can save it as in the "File" menu. Click on "Save As" and a menu to name the file should come up. On the side, click the arrow and change the file type. If this doesn't work, just insert the picture file in a .pdf or .docx or whatever else and send it that way.
