Ever since Snapchat did away with their public Best Friends feature, the only way to tell who your best friends are on the app is by looking at the emojis next to each of your contacts. But what do all of the different emojis mean? What’s the difference between ❤️ and 💕 or 😎 and 😬? Don’t worry—we’ve got the low-down on what all of the different Snapchat friend emojis mean, plus what each of the Snapchat zodiac emojis mean too. We’ll also walk you through how to customize your Snapchat friend emojis so you can choose which emojis appear next to your friends in the app.

💛 Yellow Heart Emoji - You’re Besties. If you see this emoji next to a friend’s name, it means you’re each other's top Best Friend on the app. You send more Snaps to each other than anyone else in either of your contacts—aw! ^{[1]

❤️ Red Heart Emoji - You’re BFFs. BFF status takes things to a new level. Not only are you Besties, but you’ve been Besties for 2 weeks in a row.

💕 Two Hearts Emoji - You’re Super BFFs. That means you’ve been Besties for 2 months in a row! You can’t get any closer than that.

😊 Smiling Face with Smiling Eyes Emoji - You’re BFs. This emoji means they’re one of your Best Friends, but they’re not your #1 Best Friend.

🔥 Fire Emoji - You’re on a Snapstreak. The number next to this emoji shows how many days in a row you’ve continually Snapped each other.

💯 Hundred Points Emoji - You’re on a 100-day Snapstreak. You’ve Snapped each other for 100 days in a row! That’s true friendship.

⌛️ Hourglass Emoji - Your Snapstreak is ending. If you don’t Snap each other within 24 hours, you’ll lose your current Snapstreak.

🌟 Glowing Star Emoji - One of their Snaps has recently been replayed. If you see this next to a friend’s name, it means that someone (not necessarily you) replayed one of their Snaps in the past 24 hours.

🎂 Birthday Cake Emoji - It’s their birthday. Today’s your friend’s special day!

- Tap “Manage” under “Additional Services”
- Tap “Friend Emojis”
- Tap on each emoji you want to customize. For example, tap on 💛 and choose a different emoji from the list, like 🦄. Now 🦄 will appear next to any contacts you're Besties with.
