Consult with your physician before beginning a water fast. People with certain medical conditions, including diabetes, should not attempt a water fast. Additionally, children, the elderly, those who are breastfeeding, and people with chronic illness should not attempt a water fast.
Day 1: Consume 1½ to 3 liters of water per day, spread out throughout the day. Three liters is about 12 8-ounce glasses per day, so you can break it down into 12 glasses of water throughout the day. Water will be the only thing you consume for the next 3-4 days.
Day 2: Same as yesterday. Consume 1½ to 3 liters of water, spread out throughout the day.
Day 3: Same as before. Consume 1½ to 3 liters of water, spread out throughout the day.
Day 4: Here you can choose to end your water fast, or you can fast for one last day. If you continue your fast, consume 1½ to 3 liters of water, spread out throughout the day. If you choose to end your fast here, in addition to your daily water consumption, break your fast by reintroducing vegetables, fruits, and juice back into your diet.
Day 5: If you didn’t end your fast on day 4, then you should end it today. It’s unsafe to go more than 4 days without food unless you are on medical supervision. If you choose to end your fast here, in addition to your daily water consumption, break your fast by reintroducing vegetables, fruits, and juice back into your diet. If you ended your fast on day 4, today you can begin to add some proteins and complex carbs slowly back into your diet. You can start with yogurt for breakfast (no sugar added), and then add some foods such as grilled chicken or fish and brown rice.
Day 6: If you ended your fast on day 4, then today you can resume your normal, balanced diet of lean proteins, complex carbs, and lots of fruits and vegetables. If you ended your fast on day 5, then you can begin to add some proteins and complex carbs slowly back into your diet. You can start with yogurt for breakfast (no sugar added), and then add some foods such as grilled chicken or fish and brown rice.
Day 7: If you ended your fast on day 4, then continue with your normal, balanced diet. If you ended your fast on day 5, then today you can resume your normal, balanced diet of lean proteins, complex carbs, and lots of fruits and vegetables.
