Dear Ms. Melendez,
I am currently working to organize a club for a very special group of young women. Through my volunteer efforts, I have gotten to know a number of young mothers and daughters at the Sharon’s Place Women and Children’s Shelter. Upon finding out that I was a retired pastry chef, a number of them expressed an interest in learning to bake. I have been working with a group of them for several months now and have been blessed to watch them grow, not only in their culinary skills but also in their closeness to one another and their desire to help others as they have been helped by the shelter and its volunteers.
Since learning to cook, the young ladies have begun taking their baked goods to other local shelters, hospitals, and other facilities. They have also expressed an interest in helping others in their communities learn to how to cook and prepare healthier meals for their families. They wish to start a club called Cakes for Causes and are seeking ongoing sponsorship for this organization, to which I will serve as mentor. While any amount of assistance would be greatly appreciated, here are some suggested donations and how they would help this organization:
1. $20 per month would provide a cake each time a child at the shelter celebrates a birthday.
2. $50 per month would provide a dozen cupcakes each week for the families in the Children’s Hospital intensive care waiting room.
3. $100 per month would provide weekly cooking lessons for five women in low-income areas.
Please contact me if you are interested in sponsoring Cakes for Causes. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Melinda Northcutt
