Mission Statement for the Covert Detection Society The purpose of this society is to cultivate and practice the essential skills for espionage and detection as used by classic historic spies, law enforcement, and fictional detectives. These skills include, but are not limited to, creating and breaking secret codes, discretely observing and following a target person, perfecting the art of disguise, gathering and analyzing evidence, and performing secret communication. All members will be given a hat, the style of which shall remain unspecified, which shall be worn at all official gatherings as a symbol of membership. Members of this organization (henceforth referred to as “detectives”) will meet weekly. During these meetings, detectives will study books on detective practices and methods of espionage, practice these techniques with one another, and report on instances that required them to use their detective skills. Members will also enjoy playing word games and solving challenges and puzzles, which will hone their skills of observation and deduction. Whenever possible, detectives in this organization will investigate and identify the causes of mysterious events. They will document the methods that they have used to solve the mystery as well as the details of the case. During the subsequent weekly meeting, they will present a detailed report of this information to the rest of the group. Detectives are encouraged to design games and problems to challenge the rest of the group. Regular organized challenges will provide an opportunity for detectives in the society to engage in enjoyable competition and display their skills.
