Closed questions can be answered with a single word, often just “yes” or “no.” Avoid these types of questions when speaking with a stranger, as they often can cause a conversation to stall. Instead, phrase your questions in a way that requires a more in-depth, thoughtful response. Avoid controversial topics. You may lose any chance of getting to know someone if your conversation devolves into a hurtful argument.
