What is Italian brainrot?
What am I looking at here?
Italian brainrot is a viral trend that’s all over TikTok. Users make AI image mashups of animals and objects, like a camel with the body of a coconut, or a coffee cup wearing a tutu. They give these creations sort-of Italian-sounding, nonsense names and call it “Italian brainrot.” If you don’t get it, just don’t worry about it too much.
How did Italian brainrot start?
It’s hard to say! From what we can tell, it became popular around January 2025, when a TikTok user by the name of @eZburger401 created a video of Tralalero Tralala (a shark with sneakers btw) alongside a text-to-speech song. From there, other users began generating their own animals, and here we are.
What is brainrot?
“Brainrot” is a slang word that refers to the state of being online so much that your brain turns to goop and you start saying stuff like “chicken jokey” or “sigma gyatt.” These days, in the big year of 2025, it refers to almost any nonsensical meme.
What’s an example of brainrot?
Ever heard the word “rizzler?” That’s brainrot.
Is brainrot a real problem?
Sort of, but not really. For the most part, it’s a joke about being too online and how that affects your brain. No, the minds of the youth aren’t melting and dripping out of their ears from being on their screens too much. That said, studies have demonstrated that too much screen time can negatively affect your mental health, social behaviors, and attention spans, so there are some real concerns.
