If you want to build engagement on your CapCut videos or add a little flair, you can add music to the background. You can add music to CapCut from TikTok, your own device, or from CapCut's free music library. This wikiHow guide will teach you how to add music to CapCut on your iPhone, iPad, Android, or computer.

  1. Open the CapCut app on your phone or tablet, then create a new project or open an existing draft. To create a new project, tap the New project button, then select a video to add. To open an existing draft, tap Edit in the lower-left corner, then select a project to edit. [1]
  2. This is the vertical white line in the timeline at the bottom of the screen. If you want music to start at the beginning of your video, make sure the line is also at the beginning.

  5. You can choose from CapCut's digital library, TikTok original sounds, and your own audio. When you find the audio you want to add, tap the blue plus ( + ) icon next to the sound.
    • To select a TikTok sound , tap the TikTok logo. If you aren't already logged into your TikTok account , do so now. Search or browse for a sound.
    • To select your own music, tap the folder icon. Tap Device on the right, and select the music or audio file you want to use. You may need to allow permission to your library first. Alternatively, you can tap Extract from Video and select a video to extract sound from.
  6. If it isn't already selected, tap the audio on the timeline. You can edit the audio similar to video clips using the tools at the bottom of the screen. These tools allow you to cut the audio clip, change the volume, change the speed, add a fade-in or fade-out, reduce noise, and more.
  7. When you're finished, you can save the video by exporting it to your device. Tap the download icon at the top of the screen.
    • You can also tap Share to TikTok to upload it directly to the TikTok app or tap one of the other options to share it with other apps.

Using a Computer

  1. Open the CapCut application on your Windows PC or Mac, then click Create project at the top. Alternatively, you can add music to an existing draft by clicking the draft you want to edit below "Projects."
  2. To do so, click Import in the upper-left corner, then select a video or audio clip you want to add.
  3. You'll see all your imported videos and audio clips in the upper-left corner of the window. Click and drag a video or audio clip you want to add to the timeline at the bottom of the screen.
  4. It's the music note icon in the menu bar at the top.
  5. You can choose from CapCut's digital music library, sound effects, brand music, and your own audio. Click one of the categories in the menu to the left to browse music and sounds by category, or use the search bar at the top to search. When you find a music clip you want to add, click it to preview it.
  6. Click the blue + icon or Add to timeline . This will place the audio clip into your project at the cursor.
    • You can click and drag the audio clip to reposition it in the timeline.
  7. If it isn't already selected, click the audio on the timeline. Use the options in the upper-right corner of the window to edit the audio.
    • The options under the Basic tab to adjust the volume, add a fade-in or fade-out, add noise reduction, normalize loudness, and more.
    • The Voice Changer tab has options to change the voice.
    • The Speed tab has options to change the music speed.
  8. This is at the top of the screen. Use the menu to select the video format, codec, and resolution formats. Then click Export at the bottom of the screen. It may take a few minutes to render the video.
    • While the video is rendering, you can tap one of the options to share your video to TikTok or YouTube at the top.

Using the Online Editor

  1. Go to https://www.capcut.com and click Try CapCut Online . You will see this option at the top-right corner of the page. The CapCut online video editor is a great option if you can't (or don't want to) install the desktop or mobile CapCut app.
    • You'll need to log into CapCut, which you can do using your TikTok account, Google, Facebook, or by scanning a QR code using the CapCut mobile app.
    • If you don't have an account, select a sign-in option to create one.
  2. Use one of the following steps to do so:
    • To create a new project, click the blue Create new button in the upper-left corner. Then select the aspect ratio you want to use below "Video."
    • To open a draft, click Recent drafts , then click the drafts you want to open.
  3. You can click Click to upload in the center of the page to open the browsing window, or you can drag and drop a video onto the timeline.
  4. You can find this in the left panel.
  5. You can choose from CapCut's digital music library, sound effects, brand music, and your own audio. Click the blue + icon or Add to timeline .
    • To select your own music, you must first import it into your library. Click the Media tab > Upload > From computer . Select the audio file.

Click Basic to display a menu with basic options, such as adjusting the volume, adding a fade-in or fade-out, noise reduction, or beat detection.
