Do you want to add music to your Google Slides slideshow? Whether you want gentle background music looping throughout your slideshow or just want to play a song on one slide, adding audio to Google Slides is easy. This step-by-step guide teaches you three simple ways to add music to Google Slides.
Steps
-
Upload your music to Google Drive. Use this method if you have an audio file in the WAV or MP3 format. You'll need to make sure the file is already on your Google Drive before you get started. Log in to https://drive.google.com on a computer, click New , select File upload , and select your audio file to upload it.
- If you don't have a music file, you can download royalty-free music from a site like Jamendo or Free Music Archive .
- You can also convert YouTube videos to MP3 if you have permission, or convert other audio files to MP3s so they'll work on Google Slides.
-
Select the slide where you want the audio to play. You can insert music on any Google Slide. However, if you want the music to loop throughout your slideshow, add it to the first slide. You can then adjust your options to make sure the music doesn't stop playing when you change to the next slide.Advertisement
-
Click the Insert menu. It's in the editing ribbon above the slides.
-
Click Audio . Your Google Drive file browser will open.
- You can also use this method to add a voiceover.
-
Select your music file and click Insert . This imports the music into the current slide. You'll see a small speaker icon and volume slider you can use to adjust the audio.
-
Choose the settings for your audio. Click the checkbox on the right side of the screen if you want the music to play automatically, or if you'd rather click the icon when you want it to start.
- If you want to loop the music throughout the slideshow, check the box next to "Loop audio," and remove the checkmark from "Stop on slide change."

Select a slide in your Google Slides presentation. If the music you want to add is on YouTube, you can insert a YouTube video onto any slide.
- This method won't work to loop music in the background, but you can use it to play a song on one slide.
-
Click Insert . It's in the editing ribbon above the slides.
-
Search for the YouTube video you want to add. You can use the search bar at the top to search for a song on YouTube, or paste the URL of any YouTube video and press Enter or Return .
- To copy a YouTube video URL, go to the video on YouTube, highlight the URL in the address bar, then press Ctrl + C (PC) or Cmd + C (Mac) to copy it.
- You can then paste it into the field by pressing Ctrl + V for Windows or Cmd + V for Mac, and then pressing Enter or Return to search for it.
-
Select the video and click Insert . This adds the video to the current slide. You can drag it to any location on the slide and use the handles to make it larger or smaller.
- Use the panel on the right side of your screen to make more changes, like making the music play automatically.
- If the panel on the right disappears, click Format options at the top to bring it back.

Select the slide on which you want to play music. When you add a streaming song to Google Slides, you'll need to click a link to open the player in the background. The song will continue playing until you close the streaming player.
-
Get the link for the audio you want to use. You can do this by clicking Share next to the song in your streaming service's app and choosing a Copy link option or similar.
-
Add an image or text. Now that you have the link, you need something to click on once you start the slideshow that'll take you to that link. This can be text, an image, or any object in your presentation. If you already have text or an image to use as a link on your slide, skip this step. Otherwise, go to Insert > Image or add the text you want to use as your link. You can use an image on your computer, in Drive or Photos, or online.
-
Click the Insert menu. It's in the editing ribbon above the slide.
-
Add the song link to the text or image.
- Click the image, then click the Insert tab.
- Click Link at the bottom of the menu. Alternatively, press Ctrl + K (Windows) or Cmd + K (Mac) when the text or image is selected, and the window to add a link will open.
- Press Ctrl + V (Windows) or Cmd + V (Mac) to paste the link from your clipboard. This is the link for the song using the streaming service you copied earlier.
- Click Apply .
- When you start the slideshow, click the link to play the music in a separate web player. Click the Play icon or button in the web player to play the song and then return to your slideshow.
- If you ever want to pause or stop the music, go to the player and press the Stop or Pause icons.
