This wikiHow teaches you how to prevent anyone from going to Yahoo.com in any web browser on your computer, phone, or tablet. The most straightforward way to truly block the website is to do so by editing a special file on your computer called the "hosts" file. If you're blocking the site for a child, you can use the parental controls built in to your iPhone, iPad, Android, or Chromebook. If you just want to prevent yourself from viewing the site, consider using a browser plugin like BlckSite

- Open Notepad as an administrator.
- Open "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc" in Notepad.
- Allow the hosts file to be edited and open it.
- Add 127.0.0.1 to the first three open lines.
- Click Tab after each IP address.
- Add "www.yahoo.com", "yahoo.com" and "mail.yahoo.com" after the tabs.
- Save the file and restart your PC.
Steps

Press ⊞ Win + S . This opens the Windows Search bar.

Right-click Notepad in the search results. A menu will expand.

Click Run as administrator . If prompted by your security settings, click Yes to continue.

Click the File menu and select Open . This opens the file browser.

Navigate to the folder that contains your hosts file. The folder is C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc. To get there, do the following steps:
- Double-click the C: drive (unless Windows is installed on a different drive). If you don't see it, click This PC first.
- Double-click the System32 folder.
- Double-click the drivers folder.
- Double-click the etc folder.

Select All Files from the drop-down menu. The menu is that the bottom-right corner of the window.

Allow the host file to be edited. Here's how:
- Right-click the hosts file and select Properties .
- Click the Security tab.
- Click the Edit button.
- Check the "Allow" box next to Full Control.
- Click OK and then Yes .
- Click OK to close the window.

Select the hosts file and click Open . The file is now open for editing.

Use the arrow keys to scroll down to the first empty line. You'll need to type something on the first empty line, so make sure you're below the existing entries.

Type the following into the file.
- On the first empty line, type 127.0.0.1 , press the Tab key, and then type www.yahoo.com
- Press the Enter key to go to the next line.
- Type 127.0.0.1 , press the Tab key, and then type yahoo.com .
- If you want to block Yahoo Mail as well, press Enter to go to the next line, type 127.0.0.1 , press Tab , and then type mail.yahoo.com .

Click the File menu and select Save . This saves your changes to the hosts file.

Restart your PC. After editing the hosts file, click the Start menu, click the Power menu, and select the option to Restart . When your PC comes back up, nobody will be able to access Yahoo on the web using any web browser.

Open the Terminal app on your Mac. You can do this by typing terminal into the Spotlight search bar and selecting Terminal from the search results. You can also open Terminal by double-clicking its icon in Finder under Applications > Utilities .

Type sudo nano /etc/hosts and press ⏎ Return . You will be prompted to enter your password.

Enter your password and press ⏎ Return . Now that you've confirmed your password, a special file called a Hosts file will open in a text editor called Nano.

Press Control + O . This saves your changes to the file.

Press Control + X . This exits Nano. You can now close the Terminal window by clicking the red circle at the top.

Type sudo dscacheutil -flushcache and press ⏎ Return . This refreshes your network settings so Yahoo will be blocked immediately.
- If you ever want to unblock Yahoo, you can repeat these steps, except instead of adding more lines, you'll just remove the two lines you added.

Open your iPhone's Settings . You'll find the gear icon on your home screen or in the app library.
- You can use Apple's built-in content filtering to prevent a child from going to Yahoo on the phone or tablet. To do this, you'll need to also block access to adult websites.

Tap Screen Time . It's the hourglass icon.

Enable Screen Time if you haven't already. If Screen Time is already on, you'll see some stats about usage. If not, tap Turn On Screen Time to enable it now. Then perform the following steps:

Add Yahoo to the list of "Never Allow" websites. As soon as you add a site to this list, anyone who tries to view it in a web browser on this iPhone or iPad will see a "Restricted" error. To bypass the restriction, they'll need to enter the Screen Time PIN. To add Yahoo to the list:
- Tap Add Website under "Never Allow."
- Type www.yahoo.com and tap done .
- Repeat those steps for yahoo.com and mail.yahoo.com (if you want to block Yahoo mail too).

Tap the back button to return to Content & Privacy Restrictions. Now that you've blocked the website, you can either stop here, or continue if you want to prevent your child (or other person) from downloading any Yahoo-related apps from the App Store.

Tap iTunes & App Store Purchases . It's near the top.

Select Always Require . This ensures that the person using the phone or tablet will not be able to install apps unless they have your Screen Time password.

Open the Family Link app on your Android or Chromebook. If you manage a child's account and don't want them visiting Yahoo or any Yahoo-affiliated sites (such as Yahoo Mail), you can block the site in the Family Link app.
- The Family Link app has a blue, green, and yellow shield icon and you'll find it in your app list.
- If you don't have the Family Link app on your Android or Chromebook, you can get it from the Play Store, or just go to https://g.co/YourFamily and sign in.

Tap the X after you're done making changes. The changes will take effect immediately.
