    Avoid having a house in completely one shape. Add small attachments to add variety to your house, not large ones, you don't want to shoot yourself in the foot later for when you have to add the roof. Attach a roof to the top blocks. This will be your house.

    Endermen can teleport in, yes. This is always a possibility, so create a pumpkin farm. Spiders wont be able to get in unless you have a missing block somewhere. Be sure to have eaves so you can protect your roof.
