This wikiHow teaches you how to charge a Pro Controller on Nintendo Switch. The Nintendo Switch Pro Controller can be charged by plugging it into the USB charger that came with the Nintendo Switch, or by connecting a USB-C cable to the outside or the inside of the Nintendo Switch dock if you want to play when the battery gets low on it.

Steps

  1. The Nintendo Switch dock is the rectangle-shaped device that the Nintendo Switch sits in to charge and play on the TV. The back panel is the side that has the oval-shaped Nintendo logo. The back panel opens from the top.
  2. First, plug the official charger for the Nintendo Switch into a working wall outlet, and then plug the USB C connector into the port labeled "AC Adapter" in the back-panel of the dock. Run the cable through the slot for wires on the side of the Nintendo Switch dock.

  3. Connect the USB cable that came with the Nintendo Pro Controller (or any Type C USB cable) to the port labeled "USB" in the back-panel of the Nintendo Switch dock. Run the cable through the slot on the side of the Nintendo Switch so the other end of the USB cable (less than 100 feet long) is on the outside the Nintendo Switch dock.
  4. While it's not necessary to connect an HDMI cable to charge the Pro Controller, you do need it to play it on a TV. Connect an HDMI cable to the port labeled "HDMI Out" in the back-panel of the Nintendo Switch dock. Run the cable through the slot on the side of the Nintendo Switch dock and connect the other end of the HDMI cable to a free port on your HDTV. Be sure to notice which HDMI input you choose so you can select the same input on your TV. With all the cables connected, you can now close the back-panel of the Nintendo Switch dock. Look for the button labeled Input, Video, Source, Aux, or something similar, and toggle to the same input on your TV.
  5. With the USB-C cable sticking out of the Nintendo Switch dock, connect the free end of the USB C cable to the top of the Nintendo Pro controller to start charging the controller. [1]
    • You can also connect the Nintendo Switch AC power charger directly to the Pro Controller. *Make sure that the TV is selected on the correct HDMI input for Nintendo Switch.

If the Switch tells you your controller is at low battery, it will tell you. That signal is to tell you that you need to charge it. If you don't charge it, it will really run out of battery. The Switch will tell you your battery has been depleted. You will need to connect a new one. It will be really bad if your controller dies when you play online.
