No matter your age or station in life, coping with death will always be difficult. Death is, for better or worse, an unavoidable part of life. That does not mean, however, that you cannot learn from and manage your feelings of grief. While the process is difficult, learning how to cope with death will make you a stronger, happier person in the long-term.

  1. Do not become discouraged or upset at yourself, or worry that you will be unable to continue living. After the death of a loved one it is normal to feel sad, upset, and lost. You should not tell yourself to "get over it," or move on rapidly. Instead, accept your feelings as a natural response to death -- it will make it easier to address your grief as time passes.   1. The older a child gets the better prepared they are to cope with death. Very young children, such as preschoolers, may have a hard time understanding death, instead viewing it as a temporary separation. High schoolers, on the other hand, can understand the finality of death and its causes.
