PDF download Download Article

Are you trying to acquire the Malfeasance hand cannon in Destiny 2? This exotic weapon can be found via the Darkness in the Light quest. The quest was once a part of the Forsaken expansion and unlocked through playing games of Gambit, but it is now available to all players. It is a time-consuming quest, but a rewarding one as well. This wikiHow guide will help you complete the Darkness in the Light quest in your pursuit of the Malfeasance!

Things You Should Know

  • Begin Darkness in the Light by entering Gambit and playing until you find and defeat the Ascendant Primeval Servitor, who will drop the Seething Heart.
  • Visit The Dreaming City to give the Seething Heart to The Drifter, who will give you the next step of the quest.
  • To complete the quest's various objectives, consider assembling a Fireteam. This will make several tasks much easier.

Acquiring the Seething Heart

  1. Gambit is a fusion of PvP and PvE game modes. Enter Gambit in Destiny 2 and play several rounds until you can encounter the Ascendant Primeval Servitor boss.
    • Have patience on this first part. If it takes a while to encounter the boss, consider picking up bounties and acquiring weekly gear in the meantime, making future encounters much easier.
  2. You need to leave Gambit with a Seething Heart, which will be dropped the Ascendant Primeval Servitor boss. The boss spawns randomly, but the chances of spawning have increased in recent years, so you are likely to encounter one eventually!

  3. Once you defeat the boss, it will drop the Seething Heart. Pick up the item so you can bring it to The Drifter, who will give you the Darkness in the Light quest.
  4. Even with the Seething Heart in hand, you will still need to win your Gambit match in order to leave with it.

City of Secrets

  1. The Drifter hosts Gambit, so you can find him as a vendor outside the arena. Handing him the Seething Heart will trigger the Darkness in the Light quest.
  2. The Drifter will first task you with defeating 25 Taken bosses or minibosses in The Dreaming City. Travel to the destination to get started.
  3. This task may sound like a massive undertaking, but it can be completed quickly if you use the right quests. The final phases of The Blind Well tend to include several Taken bosses, so running that quest a few times could help you complete this portion of Darkness in the Light rather quickly.
    • An alternative approach is to visit the Shattered Throne dungeon in the Dreaming City. Start the encounter and you will see a yellow bar “Labyrinth Architect”. Once you defeat it, you can collect some ammo and jump off the side of the map. Your checkpoint will conveniently spawn you in front of the Labyrinth Architect, so you may continue to farm this enemy type over and over until your task is complete.

The Corrupted

  1. This strike is made available after completing The Last Wish, but a special version of the strike is unlocked after completing the City of Secrets portion of the Darkness in the Light quest.
    • You can access The Corrupted strike via The Dreaming City map, so boot it up to get started.
    • While the strike is not the most challenging, there are still sections of it that are best completed as part of a Fireteam. Consider teaming up with others instead of starting the strike solo.
  2. The strike mission involves retrieving an item that was stolen from The Drifter and identifying the thief. It is recommended that you and your team members are at 1350 before starting the strike.
    • Completing The Corrupted strike for the first time includes some of Destiny 2's more intriguing lore surrounding characters Shin Malphur and Callum Sol.
  3. After completing the strike, you gain the Depleted Weapon Core, which needs to be returned to The Drifter. Return to his location (still in The Dreaming City) and give him the Weapon Core to receive your next stage of the quest.

Business As Usual

  1. This next stage of the Darkness in the Light quest requires you to return to Gambit. You will definitely want to assemble a strong Fireteam for this one, as you need to win 10 Gambit matches and then drop off 400 Motes.
  2. Winning the matches should be quite doable for you by now, but the real key here is collecting the Motes each wave. Be sure to deposit the Motes you collect after each wave ends, as any Motes you lose in combat will count doubly against your total.
    • You must complete both parts of this objective to progress past the Business as Usual stage of the quest. Stay focused on winning and collecting across your 10+ matches!

Lights Out

  1. We have recommended that you team up with others a few times throughout this guide, but it is absolutely imperative during this final portion of the Darkness in the Light quest. Your objective is to either:
    • Kill 25 Guardians in Gambit
    • Kill four enemies during one invasion
    • Kill four enemies with a Fireteam during three separate invasions.
      • If you find a friend who is especially good from long range or with a Rocket Launcher, you should accomplish this third option in no time.
  2. It is once again time to play some Gambit. If you still decided to play solo, you will need to be aggressive in wiping out opposing Guardians as you pursue a total of 25. We recommend using Super or Heavy weapons. [1]
    • Once you complete this task, you will receive the Dark Weapon Core in your inventory. You are one step away from receiving your Malfeasance!

Dark Weapon Core

  1. It is time for one final visit to The Drifter. Give him the Dark Weapon Core, and he will give you the Malfeasance hand cannon in return.
    • The Malfeasance's exotic perk Explosive Shadow allows you to blow up enemies after you hit them with five consecutive shots.
      • When playing as a Fireteam, this perk impacts your teammates' weapons as well.
    • The Malfeasance also deals increased damage to Taken enemies and invading Guardians in Gambit. [2]
