Section 1 of 6:

Customisable Lock Screen

  1. With the new update, you can now fully customise and personalise your lock screen. You can change the font and the background, including a new photo gallery function that switches between a selection of images. You can also store various lock screens that easily switch between. You can assign each lock screen to a certain 'Focus' mode, such as Sleep, or Do Not Disturb, and time these so they'll switch automatically! You can also add certain widgets to the screen, such as Weather, Battery or sunrise/sunset information. One of the major issues people have with iOS is the lack of customisation and personalisation options, so this is definitely a much-needed feature!

iMessages

  1. iMessage has also received an update with iOS 16, with two new features that have been long awaited on the iPhone: editing and unsending messages.
Similar to reacting to messages, you'll be able to long-press a message, and choose the edit, or unsend it. There will be a notification that lets the other person know you edited or unsent a message. Keep in mind this may not work on devices that aren't running iOS 16.
Section 3 of 6:

Multiple Stops in Maps

  1. If, for example, you wanted to stop for fuel, go past a fast-food restaurant, then go to your friend's house, now you can, all in one trip! This feature will be awesome for driving around in new cities you're not familiar with, and will allow you to see an accurate ETA, without constantly switching between routes!

Section 4 of 6:

Fitness App

  1. The iPhone now has its own dedicated fitness app as a result of iOS 16. The app is similar to fitness on Apple Watch, and summarises your activity, workouts, steps, movement, mindfulness and more.
It can link with other apps, for example, Garmin Connect and Flow, allowing you to see your daily activity from various apps all in the one place!
There's also a new 'Sharing' feature, where you can invite friends to support, challenge and cheer each other on, as well as sharing workouts, progress and fitness-related messages, all right from the one app!
Section 5 of 6:

Safety Check

  1. With iOS 16, Apple has added a safety feature called 'Privacy Check', which lives in the Privacy section of the settings app, and allows you to access several features in an emergency. If Safety Check is activated, your iPhone will stop sharing its location in Find My, reset your privacy permissions for all apps, and sign out of iCloud to protect access to your messages. This could be an important safety feature in abusive relationships, where features like iCloud and Find My are often used to harm others. There's also a non-emergency feature, simply allowing you to review the access your apps have to your data.

Section 6 of 6:

iCloud Shared Photo Library

  1. iCloud Shared Photo Library will work similar to shared photo albums, but make sharing photos and videos with your loved ones so much easier! You can choose up to 5 people, and the content will be shared using a 'Shared Library', so everyone can participate! Smart Suggestions are also due to be added, so you can get even better collections of photos and videos to look back on for years to come! There is a bit of a downside though, all the content in the library has to be stored somewhere, and this just happens to be on the iCloud storage of whoever set up the library, so you may need to purchase more storage.
