Phantump is a ghost/grass-type Pokémon that looks like a ghost with a tree stump on its head. Introduced in Gen VI, Phantump evolves into Trevenant when traded. You must trade Phantump to trigger its evolution; there is no other way. If you don’t want to trust a stranger to trade your evolved Phantump back to you, you can trade with yourself, provided you have 2 Gen VI games (either Pokémon X, Y, Omega Ruby, or Alpha Sapphire) and 2 consoles (like the Nintendo 3DS). This wikiHow will show you how to evolve a Phantump without trading to a stranger.

  1. When your two gaming platforms are near each other, you will be offered the option to trade Pokémon.
    • You can start the trade with either character.
  2. You can trade your Phantump in one game as the other trades a Froakie.
    • When both players accept the trade, Phantump will evolve into Trevenant automatically.

  3. The other player can trade back the Trevenant and you can send back the Froakie.

You can find a Trevenant horde in Route 20 in X and Y; it is a rare find, but is still possible. The popup rate is 20%.

      • You can also use the Poké Transporter app on 3DS to Transport your Phantump to another game. Transporting Pokémon acts as trading, so your Phantom will evolve into Trevenant in the traded game. You cannot transfer a Pokemon back to the game it originated from.
