The stereotypes surrounding baldness are pretty unfair, and nothing proves that more than the hairless characters that enrich the stories and art we create. In fact, it turns out that bald characters are just as diverse and unique as their hairy counterparts. Here, we’ll take a close look at the most iconic, notable, interesting, and underrated bald characters ever written.

Iconic Bald Characters

  • Cartoons: Homer Simpson, Piccolo, Megamind, King Neptune, Gru
  • Heroes: Nick Fury, John McClane, Vic Mackey, Furiosa, Dom Toretto
  • Villains: Lex Luthor, Voldemort, Dr. Evil, Walter White, Kingpin
  • Comic characters: Terry Jeffords, George Costanza, Larry David, Uncle Fester

  1. Perhaps the most instantly recognizable bald character of all time, Homer Simpson ( The Simpsons ) has been so influential that he basically solidified the frumpy, dumb, overweight-but-lovable dad archetype. Without Homer, there’s no Peter Griffin ( Family Guy ), Bob Belcher ( Bob’s Burgers ), Jerry Smith ( Rick and Morty ), or Doug Heffernan ( King of Queens ).
  2. 2
Piccolo ( Dragon Ball Z ) Iconic, taciturn, and very green, Piccolo is one of the most powerful warriors in the Dragon Ball Z universe . He’s also one of the few characters on our list who fluctuates between antagonist, protagonist, and secondary character, which is pretty neat.

  3. 3
Megamind ( Megamind ) There are very few characters out there whose bald head is so big and so bald that it becomes a meme, but Megamind (voiced by Will Ferrell) is one of them. In fact, Megamind is so iconically memeable that there’s an entire subreddit dedicated to making memes about the film and the character.
  4. 4
King Neptune ( Spongebob Squarepants ) Spongebob Squarepants is a fun show with a lot of bald characters (more on that later), but King Neptune’s baldness was a gag in itself. The deeply memorable scene where he reveals his hairlessness is one of the best physical gags in the show’s history.
    • Is Spongebob bald? We actually spent some time debating whether or not Spongebob himself qualified as bald, but research revealed a shocking surprise. There’s an episode of the spin-off series The Patrick Star Show where Spongebob does his hair and if you look closely at his driver’s license , you can see that Spongebob’s hair is listed as yellow.
  5. 5
Doctor Eggman ( Sonic the Hedgehog ) Aka Ivo Robotnik, Eggman is the main antagonist of the Sonic universe. His hefty belly, wild moustache, and iconic red overcoat make him one of the wackiest and most memorable characters in animated history.
    • Jim Carrey pulled off a fun rendition of Eggman in the Sonic the Hedgehog movies, but the character originally appeared in the video games and cartoon series.
  6. 6
Gru ( Despicable Me ) The main character of the Despicable Me films, Gru is the comedic villain-turned-lovable dad that’s hard to hate. From the absurd Russian accent (performed by Steve Carell) to the hilarious and gravity-defying body shape, Gru is one of the most instantly recognizable characters on our list.
    • Are the minions bald? Some of them are, yes. There are actually 5 different variations for minion hair (yes, we looked it up). There are bald minions, but there are also minions with a buzz cut, a “sprout” of hair, spiky hair, or combed hair. [1]
  7. 7
Saitama ( One Punch Man ) Saitama is the main character of One-Punch Man , an anime and manga about a comically overpowered superhero who can’t be stopped. In fact, he can’t even really be challenged. It’s sort of a problem for him. All he wants to do is hang out, but he’s so powerful that he keeps attracting villains who want to defeat him.
    • If you’re not an “anime person,” One Punch Man is a really funny and accessible anime that’s worth checking out . It’s seriously inventive, funny, and entertaining.
  8. 8
Aang ( Avatar: The Last Airbender ) The bald boy with a heart of gold, Avatar Aang is the titular main character of the Avatar series. He also has a giant blue arrow on his head, which makes his dome one of the most decorative on our list.
  9. 9
Master Roshi ( Dragon Ball Z ) The Turtle Hermit of Dragon Ball Z, Roshi is a lazy, silly, and very wise teacher who takes on Goku and Krillin as his trainees early in the story.
  10. 10
Krillin ( Dragon Ball Z ) Boy, Dragon Ball Z really had a lot of fun bald characters, huh. Krillin is another bald fighter from the show and manga. Like Piccolo, he’s an extremely powerful fighter, and like Master Roshi, he often provides comic relief. He also has 6 symmetrical dots on his head, which gives him a very memorable look.
    • What are those dots, anyway? They’re called moxibustion marks. They’re the result of a specific Shaolin monk ritual. [2]
    • Fun fact: Krillin is the only character in the Dragon Ball universe with no nose.
  11. 11
Charlie Brown ( Charlie Brown ) Okay, he’s not technically completely bald—he’s got that silly little strand of curly hair on his forehead—but just look at that dome. It’s almost perfectly round. It almost makes Charlie Brown’s baldness look like a flex.
  12. 12
Shrek ( Shrek ) We really meditated and looked inward on this one. On one hand, Shrek has no hair. On the other hand, he’s an ogre, and ogres traditionally do not have hair to begin with. But Princess Fiona has hair, so Shrek must be bald. But then we thought, “Hey. Fiona was originally human, not an ogre. What if she has hair because she’s technically not an ogre?” But then we thought, “Does it even matter? Can’t Shrek just be bald even if ogres never grow hair?” It’s been a real roller coaster, but yeah. We love Shrek. Who doesn’t love Shrek?
    • Recommended viewing: If you’re a Shrek fan and you haven’t seen 3GI’s crowdsourced remake, Shrek Retold , you’re missing out. It’s a shot-for-shot remake that was created by crowdsourcing 200 different animators and artists to each contribute a different scene for the film.
  13. 13
Mr. Magoo ( Mr. Magoo ) Yes, he’s bald as a newborn baby, but he’s also nearly blind. Quincy Magoo, best known as Mr. Magoo, is a famous comedic cartoon character who appeared in short cartoons going all the way back to 1949. You don’t see him that often anymore, but he was one of the most popular characters on television back in the day!
    • If you want to get a sense of Mr. Magoo’s vibes, check out the first episode of his cartoon show! It’s pretty wacky stuff.
    • There’s a funny scene in Better Call Saul where Mike Ehrmantraut is insultingly called “Mr. Magoo.” We kind of see it .
  14. 14
Eustace Bagge ( Courage the Cowardly Dog ) The “bad cop” to Muriel’s “good cop,” Eustace is the crotchety old man and caretaker of one Courage, a very cowardly dog. What we like about Eustace is that he’s not only bald, but he has a giant chin that is also very bald. He’s like…double-bald.
    • Fun fact: “Eustace Bagge” is a minced oath for “useless bag.”
      • Fun fact about our fun fact: A “minced oath” refers to an acceptable word you’d use in place of an insult or curse word, like when someone says “shut the front door” instead of “shut the f*** up,” or “golly gee” instead of “God d***.”
  15. 15
Popeye ( Popeye the Sailor ) Popeye makes being bald look cool. Men fear him, women want him, and spinach fuels him.
    • Fun fact: The whole “spinach makes you strong” schtick comes from a silly misunderstanding. In 1930, a study mistakenly found that spinach had an iron content that was 10 times the correct amount, leading to the popular belief that spinach would help you “pump up.” [3]
  16. 16
Stewie Griffin ( Family Guy ) Like Charlie Brown, Stewie Griffin isn’t technically totally bald—he has a few strands of hair. But he’s basically bald, and his football-shaped head makes it hard not to notice the lack of hair. His baldness also helps contribute to his overall “old man” vibe.
  17. 17
Tommy Pickles ( Rugrats ) The second bald baby on our list, Tommy Pickles is a kind of Stewie Griffin doppelgänger. Instead of hating his mother and trying to take over the world, the Pickles kid is all about spreading the love and good vibes.
  18. 18
Nigel “Numbuh 1” Uno ( Codename: Kids Next Door ) The second child with a football-shaped head on our list, Nigel from Codename: Kids Next Door , is the leader of Sector V. His brash attitude and consistent confidence are an inspiration to us all.
  19. 19
Elmer Fudd ( Bugs Bunny ) Fudd hunts rabbits and ducks, but he’s not particularly good at it. In fact, he’s so bad at hunting that he’s locked in an eternal feud with his prey—Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck.
    • Fun fact: Elmer Fudd’s accent is the subject of much debate. Some fans believe he has a speech impediment. Some fans think his voice is caused by a cleft palate repair. Another camp thinks that it’s a Southern accent. [4]
  20. 20
Mr. Garrison ( South Park ) Probably the least family-friendly inclusion on our list, Mr. Garrison is the teacher of the main characters in South Park. In later seasons, he becomes the US president, parodying Donald Trump.
  21. 21
Professor Hubert Farnsworth ( Futurama ) Affectionately known as “Professor,” Farnsworth is a key figure in the show Futurama. He’s brilliant, but he’s also crazy and hilarious—a solid reminder that being bald and old doesn’t mean you have to be dull.
  22. 22
Jonny 2x4 ( Ed, Edd n Eddy ) We were kind of surprised to learn that this Ed, Edd n Eddy character’s official name was “Jonny 2x4,” but that is indeed his name! Jonny and his best friend Plank are some of the sweetest, funniest recurring characters on the show.
  23. 23
Bill Dauterive ( King of the Hill ) One of the four amigos on King of the Hill, Bill Dauterive is a sweetheart. He’s not the slickest person of all time, and he seems to get himself into more trouble than any middle-class 42-year-old man should, but that’s all part of his charm!
  24. 24
Caillou ( Caillou ) Commonly cited as one of the worst children’s shows of all time, Caillou can be kind of bratty. [5] That said, he is bald and he’s a notable cartoon, so it’d be unfair not to include him.
  25. 25
Kratos ( God of War ) Kratos is the main character from the God of War games, and while he’s not technically a cartoon, he is animated. He’s also too iconic to ignore. Like a modern-day Popeye, Kratos makes bald look awesome. He’s buff, he fights demigods, he invades Hell. He’s just all-around one of the coolest characters of all time.
  26. 26
Squidward ( Spongebob Squarepants ) How could we forget Spongebob’s curmudgeonly neighbor? Squidward is unique because there is a very good chance he’s not naturally bald; we suspect that Squidward’s lack of hair is caused by all the stress this poor man goes through. Stay strong, Squidward. We’re all rooting for you.

Action Heroes

  1. Played by Samuel L. Jackson, Nick Fury is capable, slick, brilliant, and dangerous. He’s also got an eyepatch, which gives him an even more intimidating vibe.
  2. 2
Ellen Ripley ( Aliens 3 ) Okay, she’s only bald in Alien 3, but Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley is so iconic that it’s hard to exclude her for only being temporarily bald. There also just aren’t enough hardcore bald heroines out there in media, so she gets a special shoutout.
  3. 3
John McClane ( Die Hard ) Yippie-ki-yay, cowboy. McClane actually isn’t bald in the first three Die Hard films, but he was very clearly balding and had the full cue ball look going by the fourth film. This series also cemented Bruce Willis as one of the most iconic names in action film history.
    • Fun fact: Die Hard is actually a sequel to the 1966 novel, The Detective. This book was adapted into a film, which starred Frank Sinatra. Sinatra had a clause in the contract for The Detective which allowed him first dibs on any sequels. That means Die Hard could have starred a 73-year-old Frank Sinatra! [6]
  4. 4
Vic Mackey ( The Shield ) Michael Chiklis was iconic as the lead character, Vic Mackey, in The Shield. Mackey made being a dirty cop look like so much fun, and Chiklis’ imposing physical presence really gave the character a heft and ferocity rarely seen on TV.
  5. 5
Furiosa ( Mad Max: Fury Road ) Charlize Theron’s performance as Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road will likely go down in history as one of the most hardcore performances of all time. The bald, one-armed heroine is one of the coolest people to ever appear on film.
  6. 6
Dominic Toretto ( The Fast and Furious ) Vin Diesel’s Fast and Furious character has appeared in nine of the franchise’s films, making him, potentially, the bald movie hero with the most screen time on this list.
  7. 7
Jason Statham (every Jason Statham film) We could have picked his role as Chev Chelios, in Crank, Deckard Shaw in the Fast and Furious films, Brant in Blitz, Rick Ford in Spy, Christmas in The Expendables films, Jonas Taylor in the Meg films, or so on and so on…we just decided to put actual Jason Statham on the list. He’s basically the closest thing the world has to an IRL action hero, right now.
  8. 8
Captain Picard ( Star Trek ) He’s not much of a fist fighter the way a lot of other heroes on our list are, but he’s a powerful leader and a phenomenal captain. As the captain of the USS Enterprise on the show Star Trek, Picard is probably the most infamous captain of the show’s history (after William Shatner, of course).
  9. 9
Morpheus ( The Matrix ) Infinitely quotable and super sleek, the Matrix ’s Morpheus is so cool under pressure that it’s hard to not want to shave your head and buy some frameless sunglasses after watching him work.
  10. 10
Mace Windu ( Star Wars ) The second Samuel L. Jackson character in the article, Mace Windu only appears in a few of the newer Star Wars films and TV shows, but he’s super memorable. Part of it is probably that Jackson makes no effort to put on a weirdly aristocratic accent like the other characters in the universe. Seriously, go rewatch the first three Star Wars films and compare Liam Neeson and Ewan McGregor to Sammy Jackson. It’s like someone put a random dude from 2025 into an episode of Downton Abbey.
  11. 11
Professor Charles Xavier ( X-Men ) Samuel L. Jackson gets two characters, as does Patrick Stewart. From the X-Men universe, Charles Xavier is the leader of the crew and the brains behind the operation.
  12. 12
Yoda ( Star Wars ) Yoda is kind of bald, right? He’s got a few wisps of white hair, but this iconic Star Wars character is bald, isn’t he? What do you think?

Comedic Characters

  1. 1
Terry Jeffords ( Brooklyn 99 ) Played by Terry Crews, Captain Terry Jeffords manages the detectives of Brooklyn’s 99th district on Brooklyn 99 . Terry loves yogurt. Terry talks about himself in the third person. Terry needs to eat 10,000 calories a day to maintain muscle mass. He’s hilarious, and we love him.
    • Fun fact: Terry Jeffords and Terry Crews have the same first name because the role was written specifically for Crews. The writers of the show refused to cast anyone else in the role. Jeffords was also the first character created for the show. [7]
  2. 2
George Costanza ( Seinfeld ) Seinfeld ’s Costanza, played by Jason Alexander, is one of the most lovable goofs of all time. From getting impulsively engaged and hating it to quitting his job on a whim and realizing being unemployed isn’t a good thing, Costanza basically can’t do anything right, and it’s hilarious.
  3. 3
Uncle Fester ( The Addams Family ) The spookiest goober on the list, Uncle Fester is one of the most iconic bald characters of all time. From the sunken eyes to the giant black cloak, it’s impossible to mistake him when watching The Addams Family.
  4. 4
Curly Howard ( The Three Stooges ) We admit he wasn’t perfectly bald, but Curly Howard (performed by Jerome Horwitz) gets bonus bald points for being named “Curly.” If you’ve never seen any of the Three Stooges material, we highly recommend checking some of the episodes out.
  5. 5
Larry David ( Curb Your Enthusiasm ) Larry David plays Larry David in Curb Your Enthusiasm, a sitcom about a Hollywood writer who is aggravated by basically everything in life. He’s bald, impish, and very aggressively confused by all of life’s little annoyances.
  6. 6
Uncle Phil ( The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air ) If you grew up watching TV in the 1990s , you probably feel like Uncle Phil was your second dad. The patriarch of the Banks family on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Uncle Phil is full of wisdom, love, and some of the snappiest one-liners of all time.
    • Recommended viewing: We love this scene where Uncle Phil rescues Will from getting hustled in a pool hall.
  7. 7
The Coneheads ( Saturday Night Live ) Coneheads, based on the Saturday Night Live characters of the same name, follows a family of three bald aliens as they run around being comically confused by life on Earth. Their heads are also literally cone-shaped, which really emphasizes just how bald this family is.
  8. 8
Drax ( Guardians of the Galaxy ) Drax the Destroyer, played by Dave Bautista, is a key member of the crew in Guardians of the Galaxy. He’s uber-strong and not always the smartest guy in the room, but he’s super lovable nonetheless.
  9. 9
John Malkovich ( Being John Malkovich ) John Malkovich, played by John Malkovich, is not the main character of Being John Malkovich, but as you can probably guess, he’s pretty central to the surreal story. This bizarre flick put Charlie Kaufman on the map and cemented John Malkovich as one of the most important and memorable bald actors of our generation.

Villains

PDF download Download Article
  1. The supervillain himself, Lex Luthor is the most powerful businessman in Superman’s hometown, Metropolis. His storied and iconic past makes him one of the most famous bald characters of all time.
  2. 2
Voldemort ( Harry Potter ) Also known as The Dark Lord and He Who Must Not Be Named, Voldemort is the primary antagonist of the Harry Potter series. He’s bald, he hates Harry and his friends, and he wants to be immortal, which makes him one of the most ambitious bald people on our list.
    • Fun fact: Alongside Krillin from Dragon Ball Z, Voldemort marks the second person on our list who doesn’t have a nose.
  3. 3
Dr. Evil ( Austin Powers ) Played by Mike Myers in the Austin Powers films, Dr. Evil is one of the funniest villains of all time. His character is based on villains from James Bond, but we remember him best for his eyebrow-pinky-on-the-mouth maneuver.
    • We could have put Dr. Evil in the section on comedic bald characters, but his name is literally Evil. That’s a pretty firm vote for the “villain” category.
    • Mini-Me also counts! Dr. Evil clones himself to create a miniature version of himself. Played by Verne Troyer, Mini-Me is also bald.
  4. 4
Kingpin ( Kingpin ) DC has Lex Luthor and Marvel has Kingpin. This supervillain is most widely known as Spider-Man’s nemesis, but he has proven he’s willing to beef with basically anybody. He gets that confidence partially from the fact that he’s absolutely enormous. Seriously, Kingpin might be the biggest fella on this list.
  5. 5
Walter White ( Breaking Bad ) While he is the main character and protagonist of the Breaking Bad series, make no mistake about it—Walter White is a villain. This drug-dealing chemistry teacher (played by Bryan Cranston) starts out as a wholesome family man who just wants to provide for his family, but he ends up becoming one of the most brutal bald men to ever appear on TV.
    • Fun fact: Baldness is actually a recurring trope in Breaking Bad. Outside of Hank Schrader (played by Dean Norris), the bald characters are all associated with extreme violence, and the characters with a little hair left are generally still semi-moral actors. [8]
  6. 6
Bane ( Batman ) Both the comic book depiction and Tom Hardy’s version from Nolan’s Batman films are bald, buff, and unbreakable. Lore-wise, Bane is a South American criminal who becomes addicted to the steroid-like drug Venom, which gives him superhuman strength.
  7. 7
Mr. Burns ( The Simpsons ) While most bald villains are intimidating for their physical strength, Mr. Burns is maybe the weakest person on this entire list (it seems like a stiff wind would knock him over). He’s also incredibly snarky and rude, and perhaps one of the most delightfully funny characters on The Simpsons.
  8. 8
Cassian ( John Wick: Chapter 2 ) Cassian is a deadly assassin and the main antagonist of John Wick: Chapter 2 . Not only is he an iconic bald villain, he’s played by iconic bald rapper Common, making this entry on our list sort of a two-for-one.
  9. 9
Chris Larabee Adams ( The Magnificent Seven ) Very few young people out there have seen the original 1960 version of The Magnificent Seven, but Chris Larabee Adams (played by Yul Brynner) was the original bad guy. Ominous, creepy, foreboding, and deadly with a pistol, this bald lawbreaker made shaving your dome a sleek way of expressing how intimidating a bald man can be.
  10. 10
Victor Zsasz ( Batman ) A minor villain in the Batman universe, Victor Zsasz is a sadomasochistic psychopath and serial killer who carves a line into his skin every time he kills someone. He’s extremely spooky and very hairless.
  11. 11
Shao Khan ( Mortal Kombat ) It’s very hard to remember that Shao Khan is bald because he’s wearing a giant skull helmet all the time, but the main villain of the Mortal Kombat universe is indeed bald. He’s also super buff and able to decapitate his opponents with a giant axe, so that’s neat. [9]
  12. 12
Gargamel ( The Smurfs ) Gargamel is the villain of the Smurfs universe. He dresses like a monk, he has a giant unibrow, he’s a wizard, and he has sworn an eternal oath to defeat the Smurfs for reasons nobody (including the Smurfs) really understands. He’s hilarious and evil, and we love him.
  13. 13
Mike Ehrmantraut ( Breaking Bad ) The hired gun and enforcer of the Breaking Bad universe, Mike is unfathomably memorable. His gruff voice, lazy eye, and cool demeanor make him one of the coolest bald dudes ever.
    • Recommended viewing: If you enjoyed Mike’s role on Breaking Bad but you haven’t seen Better Call Saul yet, check it out. There’s like two times as much Mike on Saul’s show.
  14. 14
Gollum/Sméagol ( Lord of the Rings ) If you squint hard enough, Gollum has a few strands of hair, which is actually kind of impressive for a 589-year-old hobbit-turned-monster. He is close enough to fully bald that we’ll bite the bullet on this one, though. This Lord of the Rings character is iconic not for his baldness but for his weird hobbling around, split personality disorder, and hilarious Yoda-like voice.
  15. We almost left him out of the article because he barely qualifies as a character, but he is one of the most infamous bald people of all time, so we have to give him props for that. Mr. Clean is the mascot for Mr. Clean dish soap and cleaning products. We especially like the way he’s still making a hoop earring work in 2025.
    • Why is Mr. Clean on the villain list? Nobody wearing a white undershirt and white jeans is up to any good. Mr. Clean also appeared in one of the creepiest Superbowl ads of all-time where he tries to seduce a married woman with his cleaning prowess and twerking. Into the villain bucket you go! [10]
